The Trump era has really fucked everyone up in profound ways. Turns out electing the physical embodiment of the most demonic things about American society to the Presidency was a mistake

Daily bunny no.3453 is looking back
Bunnies sit at a table outside a cafe, called the Luna Cafe. It is on the surface of the moon, looking at a distant planet earth. They sip from mugs while a third bunny watches from a second floor balcony.

No matter how many times I read it, Christopher Cantwell's essay about Dead Poets Society for @brightwalldarkroom.com is still capable of moving me to tears. www.brightwalldarkroom.com/2016/04/04/i...

Last night at 11:30, I turned on the TV and Dead Poets Society was just starting. I ended up watching it all the way through, until 2 a.m.

Good luck to critics who have to watch Whalefall for work! I saw a 30-second ad on TV and could barely stomach that.

I came across this when I was at the Kennedy Center protest on Friday, and however ugly you think it looks online, it's even uglier in person

I’ve seen some people making comments about not caring about the Kennedy Center, or even wanting it gone, and if you’re not local, maybe sit this one out. It may be an abstraction to you, but to me it’s where I want to take my kids someday to see the symphony, the ballet, touring shows, etc

That episode of Slow Horses should've prepared me for the emotional whiplash of watching Slow Horses and then logging on to find out Annie Dillard has died, but it did not. 💔

Entirely by accident, I've assigned a different star rating on Letterboxd to each movie I've watched in September so far.
Letterboxd diary in descending order from most recent to earliest: Kimi (2 stars), Cabaret (5 stars), Dreams in Nightmares (4 stars), Home from the Hill (4.5 stars), Fuze (2.5 stars), We Bury the Dead (3 stars), It Ends (3.5 stars).

It's World Photography Day, which commemorates the invention of the daguerreotype in 1837. The earliest surviving photograph of the U.S. Capitol, from 1846, is one of many early daguerrotypes in the Library's collection. 🧵
John Plumbe, Jr., the first professional photographer in Washington, D.C., made this daguerrotype image of the U.S. Capitol in 1846. The view of the east front elevation shows the former copper-sheathed wooden dome, and is the earliest surviving photograph of the Capitol.

This stat in the AFI Silver's newsletter is pretty cool. And they didn't even need my help!
Image of Matt Damon and Zendaya in The Odyssey overlaid with text that reads, "Now AFI Silver's #1 engagement of all time." Underneath, smaller text reads, "The Odyssey is now one for the history books... Thank you to everyone who has joined us on this journey and seen The Odyssey in 70mm at AFI Silver. With numerous sold-out shows through its first four weeks, The Odyssey is now officially the highest-grossing film in our entire 23-year history! Kudos to our dedicated audience members for making this happen."

i think it was worth making sweeping changes to the action and themes of the odyssey in order to ensure it kicks ass. of all the things the original poem did for its audiences surely kicking ass was the most important one to maintain in adaptation

You kind of can’t just be like ”yeah and there were some visuals there that were quite a spectacle.” A movie is made up of visual information. The entire movie is visuals. You have to talk about the images on the screen!

I wish Christopher Nolan would make a movie with a female protagonist at some point, but I've never agreed with the criticism of his female characters and increasingly find it nonsensical and lazy.

🎨 Watercolor architectural drawings aren't as common anymore, but the Library of Congress collections contain many dating back to a time when they were, including some of the Library itself, the Biltmore Estate and even the White House.
Congressional Library. Peters, G. W., artist. 1897. Artist’s rendering of the Northwest Corridor on the first floor of the main building of the Library of Congress, the Thomas Jefferson Building. The perspective view offers a hint at the elaborate decorations, the coffered ceilings, the tile floors, and the mural art found in lunettes along the corridor.A rendering of the Banquet Hall at Biltmore Estate, built for George Washington Vanderbilt II, Asheville, North Carolina. 1890. Hunt, Richard Morris, 1827-1895, architect. An ink drawing filled in with watercolor of a proposed principal floor plan for the President’s House, i.e. the White House, designed by architect Benjamin H. Latrobe. The watercolor is used to great effect, creating shadows to make the floor plan feel three-dimensional, and including the landscaping to fully set the scene. 1807. Latrobe, Benjamin Henry, 1764-1820, architect.

ICYMI, I looked at The Odyssey not only as a great movie in its own right, but an illustration of how easily so many other storytellers screw things up when they make a TV show that should be a movie, or vice versa.
