Thank you for the kind messages in the replies. I have been taking a break from BlueSky for the last few days due to grieving and helping my mom deal with this loss. I still am on the break and don’t know how much longer it will last, but I just wanted to let you know.

CW: Animal Death / / / / My family’s dog, Winston, sadly passed away just now. He was very strong and went through a lot in his life. His favorite thing to do was hang out with my mom. He had a special bond with her unlike anything I have seen before in a dog. He was a wonderful brother and friend.

The trans healthcare ban is BACK in the bill (after the parlimentarian removed it, they put it back). Dems need to do a call and vote to remove it again. PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS AND TELL THEM TO VOTE AND KILL IT.

Fingers are being wagged at fans who care about "Donkey Kong lore"... but why? Why is this series where the line is always drawn? On the next #Kongversation, @altermentality.bsky.social and I will discuss why caring about "lore" is perfectly okay (and why Bananza probably won't upturn DK's history)!

Perhaps as a consequence of online Nintendo culture solidifying during the GameCube era, people still tend to overlook what a huge, monumental thing Donkey Kong Country was in the 1990s. This idea of DK being a B or C-tier brand, or just an appendage of Super Mario, has never really been true.

Don't *ignore* the news but don't let the despair consume you. If you find comfort in lighter things, embrace it. You can't individually fix problems of a certain size, but burning your brain out with sadness isn't going to help anyone. Do what you can, but take care of yourself. We need you.

Please, take a moment to just breath. Put down the phone, turn off the computer, even for just 5 minutes and just do nothing. The world is full of terrible news right now but its important that you also take care of yourself. Take a break if you have to.

The other factor is that many have never viewed the Donkey Kong series as a major pillar of Nintendo, so the amount of investment put in it by the company, and also suddenly noticing its robust and diverse fanbase, is causing cognitive dissonance among many the Kotaku writer and editor.

I love Fat Princess from PlayStation for similar reasons. She wasn’t created with the greatest intentions and is used as a joke, but especially in PlayStation All-Stars, I love how she is sweet and kind and cares about the people she rules over. She also doesn’t take shit from Evil Cole either lol.

I, from my own personal experience as a fat woman, find that trope endearing depending on how it is done. But obviously that shouldn’t be the extent of how fat people are portrayed because we all are extremely different from each other and have our own unique stories to tell.

🔞Amy🔞 @amycupcakez.bsky.social · 19/06/2025

Like how it is a trope in a lot of animated shows for there to be a humorous episode where one of the characters becomes fat, I like to think about ‘wouldn’t it be cool if they just stayed this way for the rest of the show’?

🔞Amy🔞 @amycupcakez.bsky.social · 19/06/2025

I do find comfort in and like to reclaim a lot of ‘bad’ representation in media of fat people as even though it isn’t very accurate, I find a lot of it relatable in a way and connect with it. However, I do think there should be more thought put into those characters and storylines in the future.

Like cute consensual joking from friends about how I’ve changed I’m ok with and appreciate but like comments or staring from random people I don’t know is something that is a problem for me.

As a fat person who used to be skinny, I will say that I do find comfort and confidence in things like fat jokes, as long as they are friendly and lighthearted and not meant to harm.
