CW: Animal Death / / / / My family’s dog, Winston, sadly passed away just now. He was very strong and went through a lot in his life. His favorite thing to do was hang out with my mom. He had a special bond with her unlike anything I have seen before in a dog. He was a wonderful brother and friend.

Perhaps as a consequence of online Nintendo culture solidifying during the GameCube era, people still tend to overlook what a huge, monumental thing Donkey Kong Country was in the 1990s. This idea of DK being a B or C-tier brand, or just an appendage of Super Mario, has never really been true.

The other factor is that many have never viewed the Donkey Kong series as a major pillar of Nintendo, so the amount of investment put in it by the company, and also suddenly noticing its robust and diverse fanbase, is causing cognitive dissonance among many the Kotaku writer and editor.

Oh, trust me when I say I believe people are overthinking this. The mystery is why or how a young version of Pauline is present, but there's so much in this game suggesting Bananza takes place in the here and now. But if Nintendo wants me to write the DK Isles Historia, I'll do it on the cheap.

I don’t like the ridiculing of people who care about DK lore today. While Nintendo may be more loose with continuity, Rare’s DK games created an actual world with history and character to it and I think it’s ok for people to be emotionally attached to that and concerned if parts of it may be undone.

I’m going to be honest. I am very biased towards Rare’s DKC trilogy and what they created in terms of worldbuilding, characters, etc. and parts of what was revealed are hard to grasp and reconcile with the DK I know. However, I don’t think that this franchise should be held back from evolving.
