Straightforward case of where the interests of journalists and the public do not align. Yes, Trump is accessible. And journalists like him for that. But he is also a terrible President. Doing impromptu pressers does not make him better at the job, and has Trump shows, does not increase transparency.

This is a bad policy that would help incumbents retain their seats in the upcoming midterms. Why Democrats want do that when out of power in the White House, the Senate, and the House is another question. Republicans control everything and every bad thing is their fault. Say it until November 3.

JUST IN: Democrats flip a seat in the New Hampshire state House. Dem Bobbi Boudman has won today’s special election, NHJournal reports. (Boudman was the Dem nominee in 2024 & lost by 14%; Trump won here by 9%.) This is Dems’ third legislative flip so far this year, after Texas and Arkansas.

The design of the Constitution divided warmaking authority between Congress and the executive to prevent a president to take the country to war by themselves for any petty or self-serving reason. You know, like a king would. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
The authority that Trump has asserted in taking America to war against Iran is, like many of his other power grabs, an expression of the very tyranny the Framers were seeking to prevent.

“Kings had always been involving and impoverishing their people in wars, pretending generally, if not always, that the good of the people was the object,” a young congressman named Abraham Lincoln wrote in 1848. This was “understood to be the most oppressive of all Kingly oppressions and they resolved to so frame the Constitution that no one man should hold the power of bringing this oppression upon us.” This quote, incidentally, is immortalized on the House’s website, if any members of Congress are looking for it.

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast. The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me. But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.
On Nov. 16, a mental health counselor recorded in Kamilla’s medical records that her mother reported the girl had lost her appetite after being “served food that contained worms.”

A week later, the couple said, children were told to gather in the gym for what they believed would be a Thanksgiving celebration. Excitement spread as families saw tables set with turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, they said. The children waited expectantly. But when a parent asked when the celebration would begin, Oksana said, staff told them the holiday meal was for employees, not detainees.

The children, she said, watched despondently as the feast was packed away.
