I believe it's possible (a) at a table, with (b) a page holder, (c) many napkins, and (d) infinite patience. But I'm in Canada, it might be different up here

Y'all I recorded a 3-hour pod on permitting reform yesterday and I think I may have finally reached what scientists call the pod null point -- a pod so long and technical that literally no one listens to it. The mythical zero-listener pod.

Fun fact: When you're doing a waltz or foxtrot, proper attire for the man includes boxers. That's why it's called ballroom

Traveling is great because I ordered toast thinking it’d be what I envision toast to be and instead I got this and it was incredible.
Thick ass toast covered in butter. There is jam on the side.

This afternoon I saw a lot of vultures over the city, near the lake. I guess this is usual for this time of year? I haven't really noticed before. Very cool anyway #torontobirds

Ooooh. Oooooooh. I didn't know they had an advent calendar. This is very exciting news! I wonder if the import situation is favourable now that we're besties with the EU

But Amy, you ask, why did you buy a condo that overlooks the trash areas for three different buildings? Because I'm stupid is why, and I got distracted by the view of the lake

Amy @amiable-sloth.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Is anyone working on making trash collection quieter? Please? It feels actively hostile how loud these trucks are, bashing the dumpsters around like a toddler with a bucket of tambourines

Any cancon recommendations for advent calendars? We usually do David's Tea but thinking about mixing it up

I bought dark chocolate trying to be health and it makes me so sad, it's bitter and angry and makes me want sweet and creamy milk chocolate. It's also cheap tho, I think quality really counts with dark chocolate

So it's been 48 hours. I've - bought a domain name - planned an issue of a Canadian Science magazine - imported photos into Capture One for editing - written about 50 words (lol need to write more) - soldered headers onto a RPI Z2W - soldered headers onto a MAX998357A Amp - all shipping arrived

The crazy thing about street photography as a hobby is that some mornings I will see things so serene and beautiful that they almost move me to tears and then I have to go sit in an office chair and build a database as if nothing happened

That sounds liberating! A lot of my list is "should do but won't, or at least not by this fake 'deadline' I set for myself", meaning the to-do list is often a feel-bad-about list as well

Amy @amiable-sloth.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
My whole life is a collection of interlocking to-do lists, which I studiously consult and follow every day. You can see why I might be concerned that the tail is wagging the dog!

Yes, honestly I think my system is fine - I've been using it for three decades! But I might poke at it a bit, see if it's calcified or still pulling its weight. What the hell, could be fun.

Your annual reminder that any treats that have black icing are probably using activated charcoal for coloring which neutralizes meds like, say, birth control pills. Ask my cousin. Quint's 6 now. This also applies to antibiotics and head meds. Be careful, please.

I wish we could get information about infectious diseases the way we get information about the weather? Why is everyone in Toronto sick right now? What's going around? Where did it come from? What's next?

Weird side effect of this multi-day fracas is that I'm now wondering what my life would be like if I didn't have a to-do list. Have I become oppressed by my own to-do list?

Put another way, to be legible enough for AI to be useful to most families, they would have to stop communicating as the family they have known, never had to overtly think about, and become something stranger and coarser that has no cultural foundation. Why would I do that?

My favourite thing about the hundreds of kid parties (and school parties etc) I went to when my kids were kids was the Costco vanilla sheet cake with custard filling. How do you get that as a non-parenting person?

My dad put my brother and me in Mensa (yup, a lot to unpack there) and I couldn't really figure the vibe out (because I was 11). Much later I read that Mensa was most valuable for folks, who, as you suggest, don't have jobs where your peers are likely to be smart. Made sense then.

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano
