A single use magic item for our D&D mega-campaign today (the "Bullwhip of Adventure") pays homage to Jacques Ze Whipper...
Text that reads:

Spend a Full Round performing tricks (and possibly improvising new lyrics to a popular song) to fascinate all creatures that can hear and see you for up to 10 minutes. Fascinated creatures will take no actions or reactions as long as the performer continues to take Full Round Actions to perform. Being targeted by an Attack Roll or forced to make a Saving Throw ends the fascination effect immediately.

Playing Stormlight TTRPG despite never reading the books. Made a duellist with the following RP touchstones: Gideon from the Locked Tomb, Kronk from Emperor's New Groove, and Ser Dunk from Tales of Dunk and Egg.
Three images - artwork portraying three characters: Gideon from the Locked Tomb books, Kronk from the Emperor's New Groove, and Ser Dunk from Tales of Dunk and Egg.

Well, what I always say, "I just want everybody to be treated good." I try not to get into the politics of everything. I try to get into the human element of it. I have some of everybody in my own immediate family and in my circle of employees. I've got transgender people. I've got gays. I've got lesbians. I've got drunks. I've got drug addicts — all within my own family. I know and love them all, and I do not judge.

And I just see how broken-hearted they get over certain things and I know how real they are. I know how important this is to them. That's who they are. They cannot help that any more than I can help being Dolly Parton, you know, the way people know me. If there's something to be judged, that is God's business. But we are all God's children and how we are is who we are.

Had the very good fortune to see the amazing cast of Rhinoceros at ART. Turturro, Giamatti & Masliany were funny and chilling in equal measure as the town around them succumbed to fascism. Design elements are poignant as always lately with ART, esp a closing image that'll be with me for a while.

I'm running an Outgunned Adventure one shot this weekend set in a scifi'ed 1939 where the players are pulling a heist to steal the (shrink ray'ed) Giza pyramids from the British Museum & return them to Egypt before the Nazis can steal the artifacts for themselves. It's called The Pyramid Scheme!

Sunday D&D/Crooked Moon one shot I ran, titled "Biting Cold", for six who played survivors of a train crash caused by an instant supernatural winter brought about by a cursed spirit of cold/starvation and it's husk minions who had already succumbed to the hunger. Exhaustion rules always fun to use!
A D&D hand drawn battle map showing a center with a train crash and four smaller mini maps around the edge representing various side missions the players would encounter during game.View of battle map along with the forward facing side of the GM screen showing countdown clocks being used to track Warmth and Satiety, along with a reminder for the players about the 2024 Exhaustion rules, and character sheets. The six pregens for this Crooked Moon session, with a naming convention from the tavern episode of Over the Garden Wall: rather than names, the players used archetypal descriptions: The Virtuoso, The Anointed, The Experiment, The Harbinger, The Weaver and The Gambler.

because I know y’all can’t click and read
1. "Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing.
Speech is the secondary or overlaid function.
Breathing must be fulfilled before speech occurs.
2. Drowning people's mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouths of drowning people are not above the surface of the water long enough for them to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning people's mouths are above the surface, they exhale and inhale quickly as their mouths start to sink below the surface of the water.
3. Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water's surface.
Pressing down on the surface of the water permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe.
4. Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response, drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment.
5. From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people's bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs."

This has to be one of the most amazing photos ever taken by humanity.. 📸 A total solar eclipse captured from the Moon during Artemis II! Notice the faint 'Earthshine' lighting up the left edge and looking closely at the bottom right... Those tiny bright dots are Saturn and Mars! 👨‍🚀
A breathtaking deep-space photograph of a total solar eclipse captured during the Artemis II mission. A massive, pitch-black lunar disk dominates the centre of the frame, completely obscuring the Sun. Surrounding the Moon is a brilliant, glowing white halo composed of the solar corona and zodiacal light, stretching outwards and fading into the black vacuum of space. On the left edge of the lunar disk, a faint sliver of the cratered surface is visible, subtly illuminated by 'Earthshine' (sunlight reflecting off Earth). The background is a vast, dark starfield. In the bottom right quadrant, two distinct bright dots stand out against the distant stars; the one closest to the lunar edge is the planet Saturn, and the point further to the right is Mars.

Now that I've run the session, here's the latest batch of TTRPG creative shenanigans, with full inspiration credit to the incomparable Deborah Ann Woll. Alt text provides context for what each pic is.
A seed tray where d&d skeleton minis or gold coins are buried in each slot for players to dig up with tiny shovels.Finished seed tray "battle map" along with tiny shovels for players to use to dig up the buried treasure.Four pieces of tracing paper showing a red dotted treasure map leading from one X marks the spot to another, lined up horizontally so the lines connect. When the four pieces of tracing paper are overlaid on top of each other, the pieces of the treasure map spell out the name of the deity who called the players to the treasure hunt as a test.

In the moments between the queer existential dread that is modern life in America, I find and hopefully share joy, catharsis, and escape through telling stories via TTRPGs. Here's my latest map for a session in which my players took down a (fantasy) military industrial complex R&D ship.
A "before" style picture, showing a TTRPG map of four ship levels drawn on a hex grid. Of the 23 rooms, all but 3 are concealed with paper to keep players from seeing what they hold until their characters enter those rooms. An "after" style image of the same concealed map from this post. This one shows all the rooms displayed, and shows the miniature furniture, drawings, traps and puzzles the players encountered during the session.
