It's still dark at 6am. The days are getting shorter, and I know a lot of people are sad to see summer on the way out, but personally, I am looking forward to cooler weather. People have asked me how we handled the cold last year, and I find myself reminding them that we moved here intentionally.

I do this dialect test every time it comes up, and despite being 25+ years out of California now, some things never change. I appear to be quick to picking up Minnesota, though!

A map highlighting that my dialect is mostly focused around California/West Coast, with a center on San Francisco. The center of the map is blue, but it is interestingly lighter yellow over Florida (lived there 16 years), northeast (lived in western NY for 10 years) and with a little pink spot over the northern Midwest (lived in Minnesota for the last year+)

Took a nasty fall walking to the grocery store tonight and wound up in urgent care making sure nothing was broken. Thankfully the only real damage was to my pride. I will be sore the next few days I am sure. Honestly, I am mostly disappointed I didn't get groceries so I could make stroganoff.

It's common for survivors of intimate partner sexual assault to not report it, because the existing relationship is used to manufacture reasonable doubt. But "reasonable doubt" is the evidentiary standard for a criminal trial. The standard for "not being a senator" is allowed to be lower.

The labwork came back stable from last time a few months ago (although her glucose was quite high, so we will probably need to insulin sooner than later, again) and she seems to be feeling back to a normal Poppy. So clearly, it was time for ear jail (which is one of her favorite times)

Poppy, a dilute tortoiseshell cat, is being actively pet such that her ears are covered and cannot be seen. She looks kind of like an alien. She is very happy though and was purring up a storm while the picture was taken
