Festival of Education: What I’m Still Thinking About… Performance Isn’t Learning
There are always sessions at the Festival of Education that leave you with pages of notes. Then there are the ones that quietly reshape how you think about something you’ve taken for granted …

First up at #ReDBmouth was a very thought provoking look at assessment from @s-donarski.bsky.social - big takeaway being that "assessment" can't be separated from curriculum design and delivery.

A desk workspace with a computer monitor displaying the "Education Leaders" podcast logo on an orange background. The monitor has a microphone attached. The desk has a wooden surface with a keyboard, mouse, calculator, and stationery organizer. On the left is a wire mesh panel with a "CREATE YOUR LIFE'S WORK" WeWork sign attached. Small decorative items including a giraffe figure and an hourglass in a red frame are visible on the right side of the desk.

That student who scored 65% versus one who scored 60%? @singhamarbeerg.bsky.social and Jen Curran reminded me they're likely within each other's margin of error. Our comfort with numbers creates a dangerous illusion of certainty in education. What matters isn't the score itself but what follows.
