Just a note: Countries like Denmark and Sweden use a social democracy model, they're not democratic socialists. Similar but different. Social democracy fixes capitalism with a strong welfare state, while democratic socialism replaces capitalism with public or worker ownership of the economy.

This dude really needs to meet more people and expand his social group. Why do such obviously sheltered people feel they know enough about life to opine on these topics?

I just realized the 88 no longer goes to Kanata, it ends at Bayshore. So now trips that used to take 2 buses take 3 instead OCTranspo just seems determined to make transit unusable
141
ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
And you're expending a great deal of energy to defend some old bigots for killing someone just because they're trans. I'm just saying don't jump to conclusions and celebrate these people before we know the whole story
010
ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
So you're not even about an eye for an eye, you're just angry and think it should be a head for an eye. If he claimed the wife hit the child do you think her parents should have killed her too?
100
ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Ok, just assuming he did hit her and a child - that means he deserves to be murdered?
100
ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
He was killed? That makes him the victim I think. Also, his in-laws hated him for being trans and allegedly physically assaulted him multiple times, while him hitting his child was never proven. Don't jump to conclusions
130
ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
They claim he hit the child, I don't think it was proven. Court documents also claim that the grandparents physically and verbally assaulted their son in law for being trans on multiple occasions

An edited black and white picture of Spock and Kirk from Star Trek TOS, in the corridors of the USS Enterprise. The picture is taken at an askew angle, making everything seem off-kilter. Spock is standing in the foreground, looking off into the distance, at the ready with his phaser in his hand. In the background, Kirk is running up behind Spock. He is a blur of motion, with his arms at his sides as he runs, his feet barely touching the ground. Spock is labeled "me, just minding my own business," and Kirk is labeled "The sudden reminder that the world is on fire and everything is so completely fucked up in ways so huge and all encompassing that you can barely wrap your head around it."

YouTube, TikTok and Meta have all turned down the trailer for the Oct. 9 doc, citing “political” content. X won't even take Bleecker Street's calls. The distributor is appealing.

A hill I will die on - some kids don't do well in inclusive classes and need a different environment. Largely because inclusive classes aren't actually inclusive, they just expect the child to adapt to the environment.

Ted Lasso is there. I'm surprised they have Bojack Horesman but not Bob's Burgers, easily the best animated series of this century and way more rewatchable than Bojack (but about a close family with a small business struggling to get by so no cool points). Also in top 5 watched with Bluey usually

Most of the shows I liked were there, but not in the place I would put them. Surprised to not see more recent shows like Ted Lasso (unless I missed it), The Boys (last season was dissapointing but not as much as GoT), Reacher, Invincible, Day of the Jackal, SAS Rogue Heroes etc.

Yeah, I didn't think so. Just because there's no law against it doesn't mean that it's happening. There are still professional standards doctors are held to, and they choose if they are comfortable performing it

ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Yes, my point is that most autistic people are shown as similar in media - socially awkward and sensitive to noise, that's it. Had to explain to my son's daycare that yes, he's autistic, but he loves the vacuum sound because he's *sensory seeking* which they didn't know was a thing

Healthy fetuses could still be aborted up to 21 weeks I think, but it mostly occurs in the first 12 weeks (most women don't know they're pregnant until week 4/5). And it might be hard to find a provider willing to perform a D&C once you've reached the second trimester unless there's a medical reason
110
ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Nope, the government just decided to let the medical professions treat abortion as health care. Gestational limits are usually decided by the hospital and might differ from province to province as they are under provincial jurisdiction.

ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
I actually think this is mostly parents of high support need kids who don't see their children being represented in the autism community You rarely even see AAC devices represented in autistic media until recently Many people still think autistic people are just socially awkward & noise sensitive
100
ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Source: I found out at 20 weeks that my child had severe fetal abnormalities (misformed organs) and that it 'probably wasn't viable' but that the testing to confirm would take weeks and I had to have the D&C by 21 weeks or it gets complicated. Amnio confirmed trisomy so I went ahead
010
ABear-Ridge @amandaott.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
No law, just recommended practices that doctors and hospitals follow. You can choose to have an abortion for any reason up to about 21 weeks. After that it goes through the hospital ethics board and you need an appropriate justification.
