Backed as soon as I got home from work and saw that the Kickstarter has officially launched. Cannot wait to read this!

No thanks, USC College of Information and Communications. There is no way that I as an alum and information professional with an MLIS will ever use the plagiarism machine to think for me or my patrons. And I don't care to learn more about those who do.
Cover of Fall 2026 issue of "InterCom," the U of South Carolina's College of Information and Communications' magazine, featuring a monochrome photo of a young woman wearing a dress and a hat posed against a warm red brick background. The cover story title is "Who's behind AI? The dean, faculty and students are maximizing it mindfully."

Hate to be That Person, but this isn't ancient. It's a modern hoax by Edmund Lester Pearson that has its own great story behind it!

Yep one day I'm sure I'll get my 20k pics and screenshots of research, books, quotes, recipes, ideas, cat pics, etc. organized. Let me assure you that it isn't today or any of the other few days left before Samsung Gallery and OneDrive stop talking to each other nicely. Nope! None of those days.

I do not get what is so difficult about this! Just do the same thing they did for the recent special with a guest each week! Just like the original show! Jesus!

Also true for archival materials, but holy crap, past humans, please watch your penmanship! Also don't get me started on all the cross-writing.

AI email query tell, archvist edition: "A negative response is also useful." This phrase has turned up in several "research queries" I've received that came straight out of an LLM. I'm a professional. Of *course* I'll reply to tell you no, we don't have that (hallucinated) source.

Blanket statement: I flatly refuse to use genAI. I like thinking my own thoughts, making my own mistakes, and actually leaning things. I can't respect the "I only use genAI for xyz" crowd. There just isn't a justification for willingly using the people-crushing, chip-hoarding theft machine.

Hello, this is pretty much the plot of Vernor Vinge's Rainbows End. I'm thinking about the bit where the digitization machine crawls through adacemic libraries and destroys the books it scans.

My hubby woke me up to tell me we're getting a new Senator...in SC?? Because Lindsey Graham has shuffled off this mortal coil? Did NOT have this on my 2026 bingo card! I'm planning to vote for Dr. Andrews, but who the heck is she going to run against now?

Inactive mold fears me
Selfie taken while I'm in partial PPE (N95 mask and surgical gown). I'm in front of the range hood where I'm cleaning a ledger book contaminated with inactive mold. The book is open on the counter behind me. It's esting on top of its yellow paper wrapper.

Borrowed a fantasy novel from work and found this Magic card inside.
A Gaelicat card from Magic the Gathering. The image on the card is of a gray bat-winged cat with yellow eyes. He's swooping toward the viewer in a cloudy blue sky. The text reads:
Creature--Cat
Flying, vigilance
As long as you control two or more artifacts, this creature gets +2/+0.
"That's the ticket! Now, let's get moving to North Mountain! --Galuf Baldesion

It's just so lovely to see men get to have a soft emotion without toxic masculinity's crap getting in the way of it. 10/10, no notes, hat tip to whoever at Nintendo created that trailer for the Direct.

Watching all these dude video game streamers lose their minds over the Ocarina of Time remaster is just so damn wholesome. I love this for them! I wasn't gaming when it was first released or when it came out on DS, so I'm really excited to have a chance to play it, too!

Post a gif from a film I've seen more than six times? And hard mode is just no big SFF franchises? Y'all, I'm old and grew up in a house with cable and a VCR. I've seen sooo many movies dozens of times! Here's live footage of me trying to pick just one.

Attention all novelists: I promise your protagonist shouldn't be using gloves to look at loose papers or pamphlets in an archive. They should have clean, bone dry hands, preferably without fingernail polish. Sincerely, a Certified Archivist.

If you're hungry, check your public library. A lot of us have partnered with community groups so we can give out free veggies or snack packs, even in red states. It's not something libraries have traditionally done, so you might not think of us as options. 1/2

When Hooklanders talk about the county being haunted by an ‘Iron Witch’, you have a moment of confusion. Do they mean Margaret Thatcher or do they mean some other malevolent entity that is withering the land and stealing hope? – Dr. Michael Benn, 1981

It's Christmas, and I'm back on my ghost show bullshit. Also, 25% of my gifts were influenced by @thornthewitch.bsky.social and I'm perfectly happy with that! 🎁🎄
Two of my Christmas gifts are academic books about ghost TV shows and The Exorcist: Ghost Channels by Amy Lawrence and The Exorcist Effect by Joseph P. Laycock and Eric Harrelson

This cat rolled onto her side, and now she keeps stretching and grunting as she gets flatter and flatter. Peak happy cat behavior.
Very flat orange cat sleeping on a bright pink blanket. Her head is burrowed into the fabric, but you can still see her contented smile and some pink toe beans.

I'm suspicious of those who don't aim to haunt a bookshop or a library. If the afterlife isn't the point you tackle the eternal 'to be read' pile I'm not sure we can ever call ourselves friends. If I am not allowed to read as a ghost there will be much trouble. – #DAKilroy #Books

Super puzzled by this. What did they DO here? The tone is not looking great, but that tag at the end about suitable for ages 11 and up...Do they think they nailed a faithful retelling hidden inside humor? Is a funny Animal Farm even *possible*? Or advisable?

I feel like we have the opportunity to turn David Lynch's quote into this moment's "Keep Calm and Carry On" and it's a far better rallying cry too.
The words "FIX YOUR HEARTS OR DIE" placed over David Lynch's face (a still from TWIN PEAKS THE RETURN).

Why is it that the first tissue you pull out of the box is almost always two tissues stuck together? How has humanity walked on the moon, but we almost universally fail to start a box of tissues properly?

My comfort in folklore often comes from the fact it ratifies the truths that greed is an evil, tyranny is to be opposed and manners matter. If it legitimises a fear of trespassing against the common good by the rich, it is performing one of its fundamental roles. – #CLNolan #FolkloreThursday
