Day 2 of the UCU workers' strike at the University of Edinburgh. The 1,800 jobs UCU estimates will be cut is unprecedented in Scottish higher education. It is happening in the wealthiest Scottish university, and the third richest in the UK, currently sitting with over £3billion reserves.

What I find concerning about this is not that kids act as caregivers, but that they might do so without having experienced a process of socialization into/for caregiving. Children provide a ton of care in nonindustrial societies but are socialized into that role from age 3ish —ling. anthropologist
