Have zero clue how long it takes to reverse engineer these things but it is still a very big failing and the Chinese WILL take the time to find out how to do equivalents. In theory whoever diverted the shipping should be discoverable but too many variable to make any solid predictions on that.

Well if granted independence, they'd have a VERY large shock about where they got basic utilities from, water, power, telephone distribution would have to be severed. They'd need passport checking and laws etc and of course they'd have no access to emergency services from the UK.
