"The MBTA currently runs diesel-powered trains on the Providence Line because it does not own any locomotives capable of tapping into its overhead power lines." Do you know where we could find some of these newfangled things?

The MBTA gets complaints for being scared of catenary, among other things. The MBTA won't run trains under *existing* catenary on the Providence Line (the ones that Amtrak uses), and it ripped out all its existing trackless trolley catenary in 2022!

MA has 9 statewide ballot questions this year. Be an informed voter! #mapoli www.progressivemass.com/2026ballot/
This November, Massachusetts will see *9* statewide ballot questions, a historic number. But we’ve got you covered.

✅VOTE YES ON 1 to expand the public records law to cover the Governor and the Legislature. We’re the only state in the country that doesn’t do that already. Let the sunlight in.

✅VOTE YES ON 2 to enable public defenders to collectively bargain. Every worker deserves to have a union, and public defenders, who are often overworked and underpaid, should be no exception.

❌VOTE NO ON 3 to prevent private equity billionaires from rigging our election system in their favor. Top-two primaries empower corporate PACs and self-funders, disadvantage grassroots candidates, and turn MAGA voters into election kingmakers.

✅VOTE YES ON 4 to enable voters to register to vote or update their registration on Election Day. No eligible voter should be turned away due to a clerical error, and this reform is one of the most proven ways to increase voter turnout.

❌VOTE NO ON 5 to protect our state’s ability to invest in health care, transportation, and public education. The rich would get millions in tax rebates, while the rest of us suffer from underfunded public services.

⚪VOTE how you want on 6. Question 6 fell shy of our endorsement threshold: our members valued land and water conservation, but were worried about the dedication of existing funds as opposed to new ones.

✅VOTE YES on 7 to enable more starter homes across the Commonwealth. We have a housing crisis, and large lot size requirements mean fewer homes are able to be built.

❌VOTE NO on 8 to protect our state’s cannabis laws. We said NO to the war on drugs back in 2016, and we shouldn’t turn back time and destroy local economies.

✅VOTE YES ON 9 to protect our state’s landmark gun safety law, which cracked down on ghost guns, banned machine gun conversion devices, and strengthened gun violence data collection.

I worked as a red shirt in the Boston Youth Cleanup Corps for two summers in the 90s. It was hard but satisfying work cleaning up vacant lots (and a paycheck for a teenager). It is great to see the city coming back to a similar program.

if it took you 5 seconds of contemplation to think of an alternative you should take at least another 5-10 to at least consider the possibility that it at least crossed the minds of 1 or 2 of the people who dedicate their lives and research careers to dealing with the problems we post about on here

That’s because helmets are not rated for car crashes, only for falling off a bike, so telling people a helmet will protect them when a 7000 lb auto smashes their body is just a lie. Traffic calming, smaller cars, fix blind spots, infrastructure, consequences for drivers who run over humans.

If you want to know why people get touchy around the helmet discourse, this is it. Elected officials who do not know the difference between different classes of legal e-bikes and who also can't distinguish them from illegal e-motos probably shouldn't also be writing bicycle helmet laws.

In 2014, Stephen Lynch fought against replacing a single-family home in South Boston with 8 homes over parking concerns, even though it provided 14 parking spaces. Massachusetts has a housing crisis. We need leaders fighting for housing, not politicians fighting to block it.

It looks like the increased parking enforcement on Centre Street West Roxbury is having an effect! (I've noticed a lot more bike lane tickets in the last week.) It also looks like it is affecting some friends of the police. It is pretty shameful that the police union would try to minimize this.

In 2025 we ("we" is mostly Europe) know how to build streetcars. Give them level boarding, smooth rails, modern cars and signal priority, and they have advantages over buses (electric, smooth, fast, narrow profile). But we don't do any of this in North America!

I agree! I think two things are true here: 1) paving repairs are good and should happen, 2) bike lane users shouldn't be guessing when the correct markings/barriers are going to come back when a repair is done. In this environment, we're all afraid that the markings *won't* come back!
