emotionally taxing day today. sent Ash (pictured), our foster of a little over a year, to his next foster home this morning so we could accept a new foster cat in urgent need of a landing place (his owner died yesterday)… only to learn the latter cat died overnight (he had known terminal illness)

received my new, free, molded food processor blade to replace the old, recalled, riveted (and cracked) blade! the system works! safely disposed of the old in the packaging the new came in thanks again to @cpsc.gov for alerting us to this decade-old product recall!

heartfelt congratulations to @dresdencodak.com on 21 years of webcomicing! I've been reading since… I'm not sure, maybe not the *very* beginning, but almost certainly by "Secular Heaven." "Hob" was hugely influential; in Aug 2007 I was directly inspired to sketch this integration of plant & machine
"Dresden Codak" fanart of a sort. a stout bipedal robot with a plough-shaped "head" and three "stems," around which are wound green leaves in suspended helices. a transparent orb filled with water is poised atop the frontmost stem. the back sports a thick, apparently hollow woody trunk, ringed at the top with metal, from which spent yellow and orange leaves are ejected. a branch with two pomegranate-like fruits extends from the side of the trunk

last night, after 17 years across four apartments, our futon frame finally gave up the ghost. an attempt at repair might have bought a little more time, but we'd been talking about retiring it anyway, so it made more sense to just dismantle it (and salvage any good bits of wood)

daylight saving discourse is so tiresome. I agree time changes suck. I live in Massachusetts and I approve of year-round DST because the alternative is 4 PM sunsets in winter. that's where I stand but look at this: I WON my regular little self-challenge of precisely synchronizing the kitchen clocks

I was awake at 5:30 AM to witness a partial eclipse. alas, by the time we made it down to the bridge at 6 for totality, the moon was too low and dim and the dawn was too bright to see the eclipse, even with binoculars one could only point to the horizon and say, "look! you can't see the Moon!"

Wikipedia excerpt: "Eucalyptus globulus is a tree that typically grows to a height of 45 m (148 ft) but may sometimes only be a stunted shrub, or alternatively under ideal conditions can grow as tall as 90 m (300 ft), and forms a lignotuber. The bark is usually smooth, white to cream-coloured but"

Refuse the premise. You can already speak to the dead same as you might speak to the sky. Say what you want, and it's up to you to imagine what the reply might be based on what you know of them You want to speak to the dead and have them speak back? You can't. That's half what it means to be dead.
