Oftentimes when I'm presented with another stark reminder of the rampant misogyny of those I nominally share a gender with, I half consider becoming Trans just for moral and social reasons. I don't, because even on reflection I'm more or less " a guy", but still the thoughts there

This is the key to understanding a shitton of discourse. Economics, or your subject of choice, is often a cipher for some deeper unexamined or unarticulable issue people have. Arguing on the object level is useless. I hate to make the comparison, but in some ways it's like arguing crime level stats.

I'm facing some difficulty making ends meet as summer draws to a close. My partner has been out of work because of the season, and my income hasn't been able to keep up with costs over the past couple months.

I'm hoping to expand my business and bring in more income over the next 6 months or so, but that might take a while. In the meantime, we're going to need some help covering rent; in addition, I need to pay my website costs over the next month, which are typically a few hundred dollars. The destruction of the low-hanging vulnerability fruit will make law enforcement (and intelligence) agencies’ need much more acute. The demand for constructed, intentional backdoors will re-start in earnest. The result will be enormous pressure on industry to re-architect their systems to make their systems amenable to exceptional access. In some cases, governments will ask for these capabilities in the expectation that they’ll be useful for spying on other governments — a strategy that might have been undetectable in the pre-AI era, but that probably will be less productive now. The results are unpredictable. One result might be that non-US governments entirely remove their dependence on US software.
