Would a single parent maybe make different decisions about where to live and work if they actually had a choice in childcare? Probably! Would complex family relationships be simplified if people didn’t have to rely on grandparents to watch kids full time and *chose* what works for them instead?

What’s missing is that people aren’t answering polls or making choices in a vacuum. Would I have stayed home for a year if we could afford it and there was no life-long impact to my career? Probably! Would I have been ready to get back to the world of grownups by the time my kid was 2-3? Yeah!

The author is smarmy and so is the framing (and the logic of it is pretty jumbled), but he’s not wrong in saying that there’s a value in a stipend for parents of young children who choose to keep the kids home (of course he also points out that many many democratic politicians *also* support that)

NASHVILLE, TN (August 25, 2026) – Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. Marjane Satrapi. A huge loss — an amazing cartoonist & filmmaker, and an enormous influence on generations of cartoonists. She’s also in so many ways responsible for the integration of comics into schools, and was so many people’s first introduction into thinking of comics as “literary”
