Too much for some people, not nearly enough for others. I guarantee I will fail your purity test. If I don’t make you happy, I guess today’s not your day. Try again tomorrow. I don’t debate people in 300-character chunks, and I block rage-baiters.

So a population that really really doesn’t want another referendum returns a minority government to a party that really really does. Make that make sense.

Rath has been publicly bragging about the “several meetings” he’s had with “high level” Republicans for months now. He says he’s asked them for a half-trillion dollar loan to get the new nation of Alberta off the ground. There is precisely zero possibility that she doesn’t know.

The Case for Alberta Staying in Canada

Yep. Canadian currency more attractive than ‘Bertabucks? No prob, we’ll adopt the greenback! Pension? We’ll have our own and it’ll be better! Economy? Oil oil oil, and the Americans will make us rich! Tidewater? We’ll go the long way thru Washington. For every benefit, a facile answer.

It’s also hard to articulate the benefits of staying from the inside. A fish isn’t aware of the water it swims in, etc. And the separatists’ hopes seem awfully dependent on getting help from the US. Dependent. Not independent.

1/2: In-person voting for AB referendum begins next week (Advance Polls on Oct 13-17, Voting Day is Oct 19). It is too late to request a mail ballot, but if you have one already, please mail it this week to make sure it arrives by Oct 16 (you cannot personally deliver a mail ballot).

They should now be blaming the most abrasively vocal of them (Rath, Sylvestre) for ruining their chances, at least this go ‘round.

The separatist objection to what at least some of their compatriots have done should be clear: an independent Alberta is supposed to be independent, not beholden to another country, even temporarily. Their only logical response should be separation yes, but not at the cost of trading overlords. 1/2

In medical research, reaching statistical significance=“real” difference, one that’s big enough to show up in a large group. Some individuals might objectively show an improvement, but there have to be enough of them to be able to say that the gain is due to something other than chance.

Most of these people would be very happy living in northern Montana and northern Idaho. They can have all the guns, misogyny, racism, homophobia and faux-Christianity they want there. It’s the promised land. I’m sure Trump would be happy to offer them refugee status.

We need to talk about the separatists selling out our city and province. MAGA operatives came to Calgary to help carve up our country. Meanwhile, separatist leaders went to Washington promising our water, our oil, and our land. If you want to live in the United States, move to the United States.

I’m going to say no, at least at this time. Any whiff of “interference” by the “libs” in Ottawa isn’t going to be helpful to Alberta federalists. Let the consequences pile up. I doubt the heavily separatist rural folk have the cash for knee and hip replacements any more than urban residents do.

Everyone who is pro-Canada MUST vote. NO EXCUSES. You have 5 advance voting days. FIVE. You are NOT “too busy”. What’s true here is true for every election too. Not voting means you accept the outcome and all of its consequences, including the ones that blow back on you, your friends and family.

The American infiltration into Alberta started somewhere around the time of Leduc No. 1. That’s why there’s so much fondness for Americans in this province compared to other areas of Canada.

All of them require the full agreement of other provinces and territories to make the necessary constitutional changes. The questions imply that a “yes” answer means Alberta calls the shots on how those discussions go. We don’t and Smith knows it, but she can use her failure to blame Ottawa again.

On social media anyway, it seems impossible to engage with people unless you’re in lock step with every view they express. Some people seem to dedicate themselves to winnowing out anything, no matter how small, that they can bludgeon you with. The second that happens, I block them.

People with medical conditions that could compromise their ability to drive need an annual road test and a full physical to certify they are fit. Same for seniors. Government paid. Automatic license suspension if they don’t pass the annual certification, reinstated once they do. 2/2

If Smith believes in direct democracy, transparency and accountability as she claims she does, she must either declare the UCP to be a separatist party or not a separatist party and amend the party’s constitution accordingly. And campaign on what she decides.

Trump doesn’t care about what AI does to humanity and the planet. He’ll be dead in a couple of years, why should he? Xi, on the other hand, is likely more concerned about regulation. He’ll use it to further oppress his people, but I can’t see him wanting it to run wild just to see what it can do.

Too late. They already showed us who they are. Full-on separation, now, and a country run by grifters, white supremacists, misogynists, Christian nationalists, anti immigrant, anti LGBTQ2S+ gun nuts who would explicitly sell Alberta to the US for the right price ($500 billion, according to Rath).
