a quick comic about deflection

A comic. Emma is wearing a hospital gown in a nondescript white space. A voice says, “you’re so pretty.” She responds with irritation, “me? you must not have noticed my many flaws i'm actually large and awkward and lumpy and sweaty and i-” She is cut off mid-sentence by a corrective electric shock. “no,” says the voice. “i like your comics,” the voice says. Emma, who is still recovering from the shock, says without thinking, “you are so full of—“ before catching herself and amending to, “nnnice words,” but she can’t stop herself from adding, “but i genuinely can’t see my work as anything but trash and it makes me thínk less of you for liking—” She is cut off again by a shock. “no,” says the voice. The voice says, “you’re a good mom.” “Tha—“ says Emma, starting to contradict, before gritting her teeth and saying, “—ank you. That’s kind of you to say.” She holds her forced smile but flinches, anticipating another shock. Instead, the voice says, “you’re good at your job.” Emma, frustrated, yells, “what???” She quickly tries to add “a sweet thing to say,” but is cut off again by another shock.

if you want to know what it is like in minneapolis, I don’t even have to scroll on facebook to find a horror story. it’s basically my whole feed. everyone i know in minneapolis is seeing ICE take people—at gas stations, taquerias, bus stops, schools. just snatching random people.

#ICE is LITERALLY in every corner of the Twin Cities right now. In case you don't know, here are the areas with the confirmed sightings as of 1/9/26 at 11:00pm:
- Apple Valley/Burnsville/Eagan
- Richfield/Bloomington
- Midway/Frogtown
- Como/Dale
- East side/Maplewood
- North Minneapolis
- Shoreview Arden Hills
- Blaine
- Columbia Heights
- Shakopee/Prior Lake
- Inver Grove Heights
- West St. Paul
- South Saint Paul
- Lakeville
- Brooklyn Park/Brooklyn Center
PLEASE stay safe! They are detaining and harassing US citizens so if you can help it, STAY HOME!

ICE is currently raiding an apartment complex near my home in Savage. Lots of children screaming. This is completely unnecessary. I'm certain these people being terrorized are hard working, law abiding individuals.

My brother's construction site was raided by ICE this
morning and 6 people were taken (they came after he left to a new site so he didn't get taken, but some of the crew did). MN companies need to do a better job at protecting their employees. They know ICE is present visibily in the Twin Cities so they need to not send their employees to work until ICE ain't roaming the streets!!

Ice is on 24th right by the resource center just started beating on someone for being under a blanket @highlight
And if you question me saying this I witnessed it with my own eyes!
They headed Southeast. White Jeep wagoneer grayish blue I think Toyota minivan

This is the thing. Does Frey actually have command over his police? Why then are they not enforcing valid trespass orders? Why, then, are they spending more time breaking up protests than protecting our neighbors from masked thugs snatching people on the street?

Are you guys going to do something about that guard or just give up when our enemies tell you “no”?

Just a heads up, if you're following me for art... sorry (not sorry), but it's probably going to be politics for the foreseeable future. As a Minnesotan, I need to be involved. I hope you stick around but I also understand that people need spaces to rest. Stay safe. Fuck ICE.

This cannot be ignored. Trump just announced plans to send 30,000 immigrants to Guantanamo Bay. The inhumanity and cruelty is beyond. Do not let this get lost in the news cycle. Speak up. Make noise. This cannot happen. They will disappear.

Trump says he will instruct Homeland Security, Pentagon to prepare migrant facility at Guantanamo

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he will sign an executive order instructing the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare a migrant facility at Guantanamo Bay.

In Minnesota, middle school kids are getting texts telling them to prepare to be slaves, texts telling them 'your body, my choice', and more.

HOPKINS PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Dear Families,
Our country is facing a period of significant division, and the recent election has stirred a range of emotions. Although Hopkins Public Schools is nonpartisan, we recognize that the outcome of the election has and will continue to spark instances of racism, homophobia, and sexism in school communities across the nation and state, including here in Hopkins.
We have learned that Black students at one of our middle schools received racist text messages referencing slavery and plantations, coming from an unidentified source. After connecting with the Minnetonka Police, we confirmed that similar incidents have been reported in K-12 and college settings across at least seven other states, including Minnesota. You can read more about these incidents in this article.
Additionally, we are aware of reports in other districts involving misogynistic (e.g., "your body, my choice"), transphobic, and homophobic memes and text messages received by students, although we have not yet received specific reports in our schools.
What we know so far is that a handful of our students reported receiving these messages on their personal devices. In working with our cyber security partner, we can confirm these messages did not involve personal data from Hopkins, nor do we maintain information or records of students' personal device information.
Let us be clear: messages like these have no place in Hopkins Schools. We are resolute in our commitment to making our schools safe, inclusive environments for all students, staff, and families. Guided by our core values of love, vigilant equity, and authentic inclusivity, we are dedicated to responding firmly-there is absolutely no room for hate. At Hopkins, we believe in respecting and valuing differences. Our commitment to equity and inclusivity is unwavering, as we prepare students for a future that celebrates diverse perspectives and fosters belonging for everyone.
We encourage you to talk with your child(ren…

Finally went and saw “The Boy and the Heron”. Gorgeous as expected and was full of my favorite Miyazaki trope of dropping fantasy world lore in small vague statements with no further explanation. “Don’t touch the coins! The ghost bees are hungry for blood!” “Oh, okay.”
