Red winged blackbirds place their nest on the ground at the base of tall plants like cattails and reeds. They chase you away if you get too close to the nest. Robins do the same thing. So do Blue Jays and Cardinals. A red winged blackbird's song is unmistakable. If you hear it, just stay away.
