#Lungcancer screening is also a chance to offer help with 🚭 . A US trial of 3.2K people referred for screening, 8.8% offered medication & financial incentives had verified abstinence at 6 mths, Vs 4.3% given usual support. Practical help, without judgement. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam... #LCSM

A clear first scan doesn’t end the need for #lungcancer screening. In BioMILD, 105 of 3,464 people who smoked heavily had a negative CT but were later diagnosed with lung cancer. Median follow-up: 9.4 years. Screening needs follow-up. #LCSM www.lungcancerjournal.info/article/S016...

In an I3LUNG study of 2,396 people with advanced #lungcancer, an AI model using routine data predicted 24-month survival better than PD-L1 alone. Performance fell at another centre, so it needs more testing. New research in Nature Medicine: www.nature.com/articles/s41... #LCSM

In a small trial in Turkey, 84 people newly diagnosed with non-small cell #LungCancer were assigned to a 12-wk nurse navigation programme or usual care. The navigation group reported less depression & stress, & better QOL + fewer emergency department visits. #LCSM pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42686455/

#LungCancer surgery became more common in England. Among 308,000+ people with NSCLC, the proportion having surgery rose from 15.4% (2015) to 20.9% (2023). Stage I diagnoses rose from 17.4% to 26.8%. Early diagnosis must lead to timely treatment. bmjopen.bmj.com/content/16/9... #LCSM

Could MRI find #lungcancer spread that CT misses? A 🆕 collagen-targeted contrast agent detected lung tumours as small as 0.6 mm & adrenal metastases as small as 0.1 mm in preclinical models of LKB1-mutant lung adenocarcinoma. Could it do the same in people? doi.org/10.1126/scia... #LCSM

This week, Germany announced a new network to help deliver #lungcancer screening in practice. The network links 25 radiology screening sites with specialist second-reading centres in Heidelberg, supporting consistent reporting and follow-up. Screening is about delivery as well as policy. #LCSM

🧠 Phase 3 MAVERICK results at #WCLC26 could change care for small cell #lungcancer. MRI surveillance alone protected cognitive outcomes vs adding preventive brain radiotherapy, with no significant diff in survival so far. If confirmed, this could spare some people with #SCLC unnecessary treatment.

New microplastics research presented at #ERSCongress today studied 100 people undergoing tests for lung symptoms. Microplastics were found in lung-wash samples from 66% of those diagnosed with #LungCancer, compared with 46% of those without it. lungcancereurope.eu/news/news/mi... #LCSM

A lot of attention on daraxonrasib in RAS-mutant non-small cell #lungcancer. The phase 1/2 study reported tumour responses in more than 30%, but 54% had grade 3 or higher adverse events. Both figures need attention as it moves into phase 3. www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.... #NSCLC #LCSM

Interesting new #SCLC research. Researchers have found that targeting XPO1 may help make small cell #lungcancer more responsive to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy. Still preclinical, & early research, but it gives researchers another possible route to explore in SCLC. www.nature.com/articles/s41... #LCSM
