Honestly, don't waste your time on game dev reddit. It seems to have more people daydreaming about making a game than serious devs, and the general approach to any outsourcing is "get a person from fiverr and then complain they didn't give me AAA game quality", not just for translation.

Disgusting vultures. I wish the article mentioned that authors paying to be published is not how normal publishers operate, though. People have a lot of misconceptions about this, and this is how people end up thinking a book they pay 12 grand to publish will somehow make profit they'll donate...

Translating games has almost nothing in common with translating books. - Nothing is linear - You often get the texts in disarray - Different UIs, menus & dialog styles = different contexts - Sometimes you don't even know which character's line you're translating

“She’s just a translator” shows that you don’t understand what translation is. Some of this comes from the ‘automation’ of translation, through things like Google translate. It’s as though it’s just looking words up in a dictionary. No. It’s an art and a science at once. To get meaning and feeling.
