This is so fitting! I was just at our local bookshops with my teens looking to spend 6 (!) WBD tokens. Shelves that previously held books were filled with toys. Shelf space has been reduced across YA/Teen. My teens were disappointed and sad.

The plan was to do some secret edits today, then move to secret plotting. So much work! All the secrets! Was scheming! Instead I have 5 insanely loud 13yos downstairs singing along with FROZEN. 🫠

It’s the perfect grey morning to cheat on my 💩 adult novel with a sneaky little teen spy mystery. I know! I know! I shouldn’t but when the idea is brewing… 🫠 I keep telling myself that it’s out of my system and I can move on. Stay tuned…

Day one, Tyrone Guthrie. 5K words written. 5km run in freezing temps. Current relationship with adult novel is iffy. Not loving it, but have to embrace the 💩first draft!

If you need me this week, I’ll be working on my first adult murder mystery novel in this perfect room in the middle of nowhere. Wish me luck! PS - There’s nowhere better than Tyrone Guthrie Centre, am I right?

First up for my unofficial #bookelves2024 duty is a book I read recently and really enjoyed. LOVER BIRDS is an unconventional 🏳️‍🌈 love story with ND rep. A great punchy YA rom-com.

I am so excited to be a #bookelves2024! I love giving book recs more than anything (just ask my friends, their kids, my kids, my kids’ friends…). If I can’t find a book for you, I know the rest of the elf crew is ready!

Does anyone else do this? I put my book on the shelf next to my fav reads and writer pals’ books. It makes me feel like I’m with my friends but also in a cool, elite shelf of fantastic stories.

I’ve been beating myself up for two weeks between election and submission and trying to leap from writing YA to adult fiction. New idea is there, just not flowing. I have 10k words of…meh. I was hit with a shiny new idea today. Of course. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Do I run with it (for today at least)?!

I’ve been absent for a while, trying to keep my head away from social media muck. I’m dipping back in here and on threads to see where my #kidlit friends are. Hello pals! 👋 I’m a YA/teen mystery writer about to take the plunge into writing adult murder mysteries.

Do pick up a copy of @sineadohart.bsky.social’s #TheSilverRoad. This magical tale of friendship and Irish mythology is captivating (trust me, I read it this weekend, in one go). I absolutely fell in love with this book and the story of courage and growth and history. A complete gem!

This Bisexual Visibility Week, I'm inventing Buy Bi, where people come together to support bi creators and business owners by buying their stuff! Why not start with a gorgeous story about a seaside town, a secret museum and a girl who is *not* going to make any friends. fionalongmuir.com#books

A graphic of the looking for Emily cover, surrounded by text. Text reads: a murderous plot, Costello the dog (and his very soft ears), a truly massive library, chips, like really seriously a lot of chips, gay dads in matching jumpers, nefarious villainy, friends in unlikely places, a secret museum
