My dad died on Saturday. He was brilliant and handsome and funny and tough to sum up. He loved books of all kinds and loved movies to distraction. He loved watching movies and teaching film and dedicated a lot of his career to preserving film and film history.

This photo shows my dad swimming with tiny me in a life ring in the Severn river. I know it seems like he should be closer, but this was basically helicopter parenting at the time.

Grendel left last night and tore a big chunk of my heart out with him. He was so smart, so funny, so strange. He loved chicken and any kind of treats and hiding behind doors to pounce at cat toys and using the bathtub as a moat.

An adorable but grave little kitten looks at the camera. He's cream-colored with the beginning of tabby stripes in a Siamese pattern. He has a very black tail also with tabby stripes. Yes he looks skeptical, but we made it work.

That kitten is now a cat, handsome as all get out. His tabby stripes now show more fully and he has more of that Siamese beige/brown. He is lounging in one of those ring beds. He is just the best guy.

This is a shameless repost of a picture where Grendel just looks ridiculously handsome. He's sitting on a purple bedspread with a bookshelf behind him. He looks stern, but he is really continuing to be just the best, smartest, weirdest little guy. He took that responsibility seriously.

His front legs are striped like an okapi. He has blue eyes and dots on his whisker pads. He looks stern, but it's (mostly) an act. He is the best.

I'll be honest: I am in the 8pm spot and I love my team, DAM, but The Centurions are up at 9:00 and The Four Horsemen are up at 9:30 and they are two of the funniest fucking teams you have ever seen. If you are in Los Angeles and want to learn improv from one of the best, I recommend Rich Sohn unreservedly. He'll get you doing fearless scenework and having fun. Plus he has maps to the underground treasure caverns of LA.

Fearless Improv starts March 14th at the Pack Theater. A quoted recommendation says: "He is the fucking dopest! I took an intensive with him in Chicago and was beyond happy when he moved to The Pack. He's one of the best teachers I've taken with and he's fucking hilarious. No ego bullshit. Just ready to teach and have fun."

Hoo trying out the new cat cave for the first time. She was deeply suspicious for many days, but now agrees that we may have something here.

A beautiful cat sits in a felt cat cave. The cat cave is black with a broad white rim. The cat herself has blue eyes and a gray face and ears. Her head and ruff are lighter like a Siamese, but she has an elegant grey cape pattern on her back. It's not visible in the photo, but she has floofy white belly fur. Hoo is a sweet and strange cat. She is in touch with bits of the universe that the rest of us may never see. Anyway, it seems to be a good cat cave.

This is Hoolock. Her mom was an alley cat and her dad was an escaped Birman show cat. She is the bossy Queen of the Universe, but also likes to stay right up close to me when I'm working from home. If I leave the Cat Dancer out, she becomes a werewolf late at night. A complex diva.
