#kids I helped register people to vote at Pride, then took Eldest Niece to a cat cafe where she of course wanted to adopt half the cats. Then we sat outside and talked for quite a while. Good day. :)

Namjoon tugged his wig until it was even, then looked around at his crew. “Taehyung-ah, give Jimin the spirit gum. Seokjin hyung, with the way those lights flash in that building, you’ll be glad you’re in sunglasses. Kook-ah, what are you taking - is that a fan?”

“I can do a lot of damage with a fan,” Jungkook said with a pout.

Namjoon sighed. “I miss my sister.”

“Where is Jeongyeonie?” Hoseok asked.

“Noona said if we wanted to do mobster cosplay for a small-time heist we could do it without her, and went on a spa weekend with Nayeon noona,” Jungkook said.

#wipwednesday I read this adorable fic about Shane adopting a kitten, pondered a bit, and then this came out.

He’d been moving along at a quick clip, his mind on his call with Ilya the night before. The Centaurs and Metros wouldn’t play each other for another month, and the had alternating West Coast swings that would keep them apart for at least half of that. Shane was lonely. The house was starting to echo when he was in there alone.

He was jerked out of his self-pity and stopped cold. What was--where had that come from? He held his breath and listened again. Then he padded quietly to the edge of the sidewalk.

The homeowner had put their trash out, and there was a cat on its hind legs, batting at a torn edge of a grocery bag that was hanging from the edge of the can. Something flopped out - a banana peel - and the cat meowed again. It sniffed the peel thoroughly, then sat back on its haunches and gave the peel such a disgusted look that Shane snorted.

The cat’s ears turned before its head did. It jumped up and walked over to Shane, meowing loudly at him.

“It’s not my fault the Parks don’t put out good garbage,” Shane said. “You’ll have to have a talk with them about it.”

#wipwednesday time! Shane and Ilya reading (hockey history and romance novels, respectively)...

But at night, they would settle into Shane’s huge leather couch. Shane liked to lean back with his legs up on the ottoman while Ilya put his head in Shane’s lap and stretched along the cushions. Shane would prop his hardcover just next to Ilya’s head and Ilya would prop his paperback on his chest and they would both read silently, Shane’s free hand tangling in Ilya’s curls until he needed to turn a page.

Most nights Shane would get distracted by Ilya’s chest, or Ilya by Shane’s glasses, and the books would be set aside for “other pursuits,” as Ilya called them with a wink and a laugh. But some nights they would just…read, together, until it was time to crawl into bed next to each other, Ilya hooking his chin over Shane’s shoulder and Shane hugging Ilya’s arm close, and sleep.
