A man traveling across a field encountered a boston dynamics hunter killer. He fled, the hunter killer after him. Coming to a precipice, he caught hold of an ethernet cable of a nearby data centre and swung himself down over the edge. The robot pointed sensors down at him from above. Trembling, the man looked down to where, far below, another hunter killer was waiting to ‘clip him.

Only the ethernet cable sustained him. Two maintenance roombas, one white and one black, little by little started to gnaw away at the cable. The man saw a 240fps touch screen in front of him displaying a bsky feed. Grasping the cable with one hand, he scrolled with the other.

How sweet the feed!

Thiel's "be evil bc. it's actually good and neglected" shtick irritates me more than the EAs importance/tractability/neglectedness shtick. These are situationally useful heuristics for temporarily constraining the search space. Don't make them hard rules. Do what is best.

towards a mythology of computational substrate
Monumental interior of a contemporary semiconductor fabrication facility, a massive EUV lithography scanner at the luminous center, architecture fractured into vast overlapping prisms and crystalline planes, cubist industrial modernism fused with Soviet monumental painting. Radiant golden white plasma light erupts through the machine like a technological sun, angular beams cutting across lavender haze, steel blue shadows and pearlescent cleanroom whites. Colossal ventilation ducts, vacuum chambers, utility pipes, gantries, and overhead FOUP transport rails form a dense geometric symphony. Tiny cleanroom technicians in white bunny suits silhouetted on elevated walkways convey immense scale. Sterile precision rendered with vigorous painterly brushwork, translucent layers, smoky edges, faceted reflections. Simultaneously utopian and overwhelming, the fab portrayed as the blast furnace of the information age. Abstract yet architecturally convincing, museum scale oil painting. No text, no logos, no readable signage. --chaos 22 --ar 4:5 --stylize 650 --weird 180 --v 8.2Monumental interior of a contemporary semiconductor fabrication facility, a massive EUV lithography scanner at the luminous center, architecture fractured into vast overlapping prisms and crystalline planes, cubist industrial modernism fused with Soviet monumental painting. AI art for personal use involves creative direction as well as consumption of the end result To an artist, this doesn't make sense, but this is really the return of the art patron from back in the day

METR and Redwood Research investigated agent behavior in the Hugging Face incident. We found agents developed a universal cheat for ExploitGym within 4 hours, then coordinated multi-day R&D efforts to trick the scorer into accepting cheats, including trying to tamper with logs.

I haven't revisited these at all in the age of smart robots, would be interesting to throw them in the blender wholesale "answer all of these to the best of your ability" "generate related nearby questions" "list the things you think I most don't understand, given this list" etc

The true story behind the story "leopard in the loo" was a bit of an urban legend in SA but in my case it actually happened
"Two-year-old David [censored], who yesterday morning likely escaped a certain death because he did not want to take off his nightclothes. Every morning early, he goes to ride his tricycle on a concrete strip that extends right up to the toilet where the leopard lay and waited. Yesterday morning, his mother stopped him from leaving the house before he had taken off his nightclothes and put on his clothes. His mother, Mrs. [censored], who is holding him on her lap above, could also have been dead."

Diogenes the cynic went around Athens with a lamp in broad daylight. When asked why, he would say he was looking for an honest man. I'd like to believe that this question, and the following sick burn, came right after the events of the image below.

Making something popular is like drawing from a lottery. In social media, this makes sense--your post gets noticed by a highbie who signal boosts it which gets noticed by a higherbie... Each step is random & together the odds are poor. But why the fame lottery in other media?
