The primary school across the road from us, where all our kids went, is being demolished and rebuilt. This pile of rubbish is now all that’s left of all the trees that were around the perimeter. This, sadly, is the norm here. At a time when we need more trees, this city consistently destroys them.

Macro photography lesson with my new 12 year-old student & his mum went great. He’s got a good eye & we’ll be building skills across a 15hr course. But, JFC, some work stress has really pushed me in the two hours after the lesson. Got a headache now that feels like I’ve an axe in my head.

2011年9月。家族で軽井沢へ週末の小旅行に出かけた。3・11の震災以来、初めての本格的な旅行だった。ジョーとアミを連れて、日の出を見に車で出かけた。キャベツ畑がどこまでも広がり、背後には山々がそびえていた。車の屋根に映る光を利用して、構図の下部にアクセントを加えた。

日本の軽井沢の田園地帯に昇る朝日。カメラは車の屋根に設置。風景の反射を利用して、前景に変化を持たせている。

September of 2011. A weekend getaway in Karuizawa with the family. First we’d really had since the 3/11 quake. Drove Joe and Ami out to see the sunrise. Loads of cabbage fields. Mountains in back. Used the reflection on the roof of the car to create some interest in the bottom of the frame.
