The SCORE investigation of repeatability and credibility is a lot. There are a few ways to get your head around it. 1: The Nature collection includes 3 papers from SCORE, an amazing paper from @i4replication.bsky.social and several commentaries about the work. www.nature.com/collections/... 1/

"But résumé studies only measure callbacks. They don’t tell us who actually gets hired." These authors of this brand new preprint wanted to know whether discrimination measured in résumé studies shows up in real hiring. So they linked a large résumé audit experiment to actual employment data.

My reviewing style has changed over time. Rather than litigate every little thing, and pushing my own ideas, I focus only on 2 things: (1) Are the claims interesting/important? (2) Does the evidence support the claims? Most of my reviews these days are short and focused.

"...a model should be judged by criteria akin to those applied to stories, such as aesthetics, originality, and relevance. It does not require that a model have predictive power, nor that it be subjected to empirical testing. Essentially, crafting a compelling model is an art rather than a science."

👀 A 10 page paper caused a recent panic because of a math error. I was curious if AI would spot the error by just prompting: “carefully check the math in this paper” especially as the info is not in training data. o1 gets it in one shot. This feels like a big capability gain for scientific work
