Tales from driving through rural Michigan last weekend for my son's water polo tournament: Saw as many El-Sayed signs as Rodgers signs, and this was in deep farm country. Compare this to 2024 when there were Trump signs EVERYWHERE out in the sticks. The vibes—they are promising.

I've updated my map of El Niño impacts this year to incorporate 13 dynamical models (NMME and C3S, Sept runs); the initial version was simply based on an assessment of the impacts literature for past very strong events. This also let me refine the impacted areas using the model fields:

The accounting is in: In Oregon there are 111 data centers. The TOTAL number of people employed at data centers is just 2,630, or 0.1% of the labor force. Those 100 data centers consumer 23% of all electricity used in Oregon. Meanwhile, electricity rates skyrocket as more centers are built.

I keep hearing analysts say there's no way out of the Middle East for Trump. Sure there is. Just pull the troops. It's not like Iran's next to us, ready to invade. They're on the other side of the world. There's just no way for Trump to end with war without looking like a massive fucking loser.

As a Michigan resident who voted for El-Sayed, here are my thoughts on last night's primary: 1) As much as I thought and hoped that El-Sayed would win, I'm still kind of shocked he did. He's Muslim, Egyptian-American, and a self-proclaimed socialist. He was outspent by over $60 million. And he won.

I live in Michigan. It'll hit 90° today, again. The air quality is the worst of anywhere in the world. We can't eat vegetables for fear of getting explosive diarrhea from a fecal matter parasite. It may not all be his fault, but seriously: Fuck Trump.

ICE has shot and killed two people in less than a week, in Texas and in Maine. We know about this violence because it happened outside, where neighbors were there to witness it. We often do not find out what happens to those ICE abducts until much later, if ever.
