You’re not coming across as combative at all. I have a lot of questions too - many of which Falade wouldn’t answer for legal reasons. My hunch is we haven’t heard the last of this. And I also think his book will see the light of day.

How did they have the manuscript in the first place? This was a final draft submitted to an agent. The whole story raises more questions than answers. I wanted to hear from Jerry himself. I gave his former agent a chance to talk but he declined. I’m fairly sure this isn’t the end of the story

It’s impossible to know - because we don’t know what the results of the AI detection software were - which sentences, particularly, came back as likely AI generated, what was the detector, etc. Who is the journalist from the trade publication that raised red flags?

I have spent a lot of time in Nigeria and even edited a novel of Nigerian crime fiction so in my view the ‘voice’ he talks about is unmistakeable

Good questions. His former agent wouldn’t talk to me so it’s difficult to verify the chain of events. I was able to read the first five chapters of his novel and it tracks with what he told me and what his essay says.
