There's a curling club I so desperately want to join but it's juuuust too far away to be reasonable to do every week and that makes me sad. Someone start a curling club with dedicated ice in my town please

It's a rainy, dreary day, the first of October, why oh why do I have to be at work instead of home with the lights off watching horror movies

Why do people insist on "Reply All" when they only need to respond to one person. Like, what compels them to do that.

Had a blast watching RESIDENT EVIL (2026) in theaters the other day. Felt so much like watching my friends play scary video games (not much of a gamer, myself). Relentless pace, scary, often funny, all in under 95 minutes. Great soundtrack too. Hell yeah, I say.

Donated my first two middle grade books to my son's school library last year and I guess each week now he checks to see if they're checked out (they currently are!). And then yesterday he told the librarian there was a new book and she needs it. Kid's doing better marketing than I am lol

Ever read a book that is great and doing cool things on a craft level but like it's distracting because the book is constantly sparking ideas and making you want to go write? Idk if that makes sense or what is says about me though

Anyone know any good examples of short horror vignettes (versus, say, horror flash fiction)?

Been thinking about a story idea for a while, something that'll likely be flash, maybe micro length, and I'm struggling to crack just how I want it to go. But like, only thinking and no writing ain't gonna cut it, yeah? Time to write.

This past weekend was the last cottage weekend of the year. Always bittersweet because I love fall but will miss going up north to the lake until next year. We spent some of our time searching for a lake monster.
A photo of a small metal row boat with an outboard motor. In the boat is a woman and her young son, who's holding a net. The boat is floating in a lily pad-covered cove in an inland lake in Michigan. The shore is overgrown with shrubs and trees. In the corner of the photo is a thumbnail of the cover of my middle grade horror book, The Legend of Lost Lake, which bares a remarkable resemblance to the photo. Additional text indicates the book is available for purchase now.

Finished a short story (a full draft anyway) for the first time in a year. And it's one I started writing years ago. 5k words, nothing big, a length of story I might have needed only a week to write in days gone by. Feels good to finally break through on this one though. Hoping it creates momentum.

Stumbled upon the art of the late Canadian painter Rob Gonsalves today and whoa. Breathtaking stuff. Sad to think he's not still out there painting. If, like me, you're unfamiliar, go look through his portfolio. Incredible work. This painting is titled "The Phenomenon of Floating" (2012)
An oil painting of magical realism. From one perspective, it's a person floating in water looking at the sky, or simultaneously floating in space looking at the world

Lol IngramSpark STILL managed to screw this up. Instead of sending me 6 replacement copies of the two different books as requested (and confirmed by them!) they're sending me 12 of just one of the books. How can they be so bad at literally every aspect of their business

Release day! My next middle grade horror book, THE LEGEND OF LOST LAKE, is out now! Always a bit surreal putting a book out into the world. No idea what happens next with it, but that's okay. Creating the book is the whole point for me, and anything that comes after is a bonus.

THE LEGEND OF LOST LAKE

Jackson ’s favorite part of summer is going to the family cottage on Lost Lake. Even better is getting to stay for a whole week, spending as much time fishing as possible.

Who cares if they ’re in the middle of a heatwave with no rain. It ’s really no problem when he can just go swimming to cool off. Right?

What then, made that large splash over in the lily pads? And why is that odd, old man down the road warning about some mysterious legend, and telling Jackson, no matter what, to stay out of the water?

Submitted a short story this morning for the first time in ages, and looking back at my sub history it's wild how little I've done with writing in the past 3 years, just absolutely tanked. Many reasons why I'm sure but I don't like any of them. Anyway, nice to sub again, even if rejection is likely.

Oh wow, I loved THE THIEF OF ALWAYS. Wish I had read it as a kid, but still a great first time read as an adult. Now I need a different edition with a cover that does this book (and Barker's interior illustrations) proper justice.

(I didn't respond to the review of course) but this reminds me of the reviewer livid with my dinosaur horror book because it was not appropriate for kids. I made zero indication that it was YA in marketing and a cursory glance at the back cover copy or the first few pages would have made it clear 🤷🏻‍♂️
