Super busy right now with random plans and yard work and getting ready for a book event this weekend but you know what'll definitely help is all those extra plants I just bought that I'll need to find homes for in my gardens

Seated for Beware Boiúna. Only person in the theater. Literally the only thing I know about this movie is what the poster looks like. Hope it's good lol

Randomly reminded of the TI-84 calculators we used in high school Calculus and how my friend got a school calculator and @calligator.bsky.social had the high score in the games on it.

Up north with old college buddies. Perfect weekend.

I definitely remember! So maybe I've only had this idea since it was your idea lol I'm not sure now. It's a great idea if it was originally yours!

To be clear I've done this too but we gotta stop. There's no expiration date on art

If I had time/money/resources(lol) I'd start a review site/publication that pays for critical reviews of books and movies that are *at least* 3 (maybe 5) years old cuz I'm getting sick of "late to the party but I finally read/watched X!" and it's a thing that came out like 6 months ago

There's a curling club I so desperately want to join but it's juuuust too far away to be reasonable to do every week and that makes me sad. Someone start a curling club with dedicated ice in my town please

Ha, no thanks! I'm ready for cooler weather. Not exactly ready for winter, but I'm over the heat

It's a rainy, dreary day, the first of October, why oh why do I have to be at work instead of home with the lights off watching horror movies

It makes me irrationally mad lol

I responded and said they could reach out to me directly for these types of inquiries and they said "I thought you were on the email chain!" and like, yes I was but why did the other 30 people need to be involved. Where is logic

Why do people insist on "Reply All" when they only need to respond to one person. Like, what compels them to do that.

Those final pitches at 100 were always *electric*. But yeah man, I'm right there with you (I'd mostly just love for the Tigers to not be bad, haha)

Alex Ebenstein @alexebenstein.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Absolutely. You just don't see starting pitchers like those two anymore. I've been watching JV pitch for nearly 2/3 of my life lol.

Watching Justin Verlander pitch one last time. Man, emotional.

Had a blast watching RESIDENT EVIL (2026) in theaters the other day. Felt so much like watching my friends play scary video games (not much of a gamer, myself). Relentless pace, scary, often funny, all in under 95 minutes. Great soundtrack too. Hell yeah, I say.

Donated my first two middle grade books to my son's school library last year and I guess each week now he checks to see if they're checked out (they currently are!). And then yesterday he told the librarian there was a new book and she needs it. Kid's doing better marketing than I am lol

Ever read a book that is great and doing cool things on a craft level but like it's distracting because the book is constantly sparking ideas and making you want to go write? Idk if that makes sense or what is says about me though

Anyone know any good examples of short horror vignettes (versus, say, horror flash fiction)?

That's it exactly, isn't it? Finally got some words down and things are starting to open up

Got a couple hundred words in doing just that! Turns out, getting a few sentences down starts to unlock the story--who knew!? (It's me, I knew. Maybe next time I won't hesitate for weeks haha)

Been thinking about a story idea for a while, something that'll likely be flash, maybe micro length, and I'm struggling to crack just how I want it to go. But like, only thinking and no writing ain't gonna cut it, yeah? Time to write.

Cursed Morsels: A Food Systems Horror Anthology submissions are still open through the 28th! I'll admit that I'm getting lots of stories that don't fit--too sci-fi, too lighthearted, insufficiently focused on systems--so keep that in mind when you submit a story. cursedmorsels.com/submission-c...

The series is getting a rebrand and subsequently Melon Head Mayhem will get a new look and re-release in January. The original version was still available for a little while, but it looks like that's no longer the case. Unfortunately that'll likely mean waiting until January. Sorry about that!

In the past 24 hours I tabled and sold books at a lit fest, participated in an author panel, and got a rejection for a short story submission. Nature is healing or whatever

This past weekend was the last cottage weekend of the year. Always bittersweet because I love fall but will miss going up north to the lake until next year. We spent some of our time searching for a lake monster.
A photo of a small metal row boat with an outboard motor. In the boat is a woman and her young son, who's holding a net. The boat is floating in a lily pad-covered cove in an inland lake in Michigan. The shore is overgrown with shrubs and trees. In the corner of the photo is a thumbnail of the cover of my middle grade horror book, The Legend of Lost Lake, which bares a remarkable resemblance to the photo. Additional text indicates the book is available for purchase now.

First rec hockey game tonight after 4 months off and it's always the same two things: The first half of the first period is basically torture. But the first post game beer is the best beer.
