Whenever I see a picture of Monty Don I see a younger Werner Herzog and now I’m wondering what Herzog as the host of Gardeners’ World would be like.

On #NationalDoodleDay why not put pen to paper? Don’t worry if its not quite as ambitious a piece of art as these students in their Still Life Class, at the School of Art, Derby, in the 1890s are aiming for. It’s still fun! #PhotoFriday #art #Victorian
A woman sits on a plinth in a room. Two women and a man face her, each standing in front of an easel as they draw her. The ladies are dressed in white blouses and long black skirts. The man is in a smart suit. The lady on the plinth is dressed in flowing robes.

Horrible new bullshit from the sea every time. It’s never ‘oh we found a new pink fish that is so happy’ it’s always stuff like this, the crush-depth screw-headed dongwongler, and it’s got to have big long creepy bits. Sick of the ocean tbh.

32.3ºC at Kew Gardens is the hottest May temperature on record at the station since records began in 1881, beating its previous May maximum by 2ºC (30.3ºC, 25th May 1922). It beat its maximum temperature date record for the 24th of May by OVER 2ºC (30.2ºC, 1922), exceptional.
Spaghetti chart showing Kew and Kew Gardens May daily maximum temperatures from 1881 to 2026. 144 years of May temperatures are shown as thin grey lines, forming a band broadly between 10°C and 30°C throughout the month. The 2026 line is highlighted in bold red and rises sharply to 32.3°C on 24 May. Two dashed reference lines mark the previous May record of 30.3°C set on 25 May 1922, and the previous 24 May date record of 30.2°C also set in 1922. The 2026 value exceeds both by more than 2°C.

Fun fact for bores like me: When the expedition first docked at St. Helena on their outbound journey on January 1840, Napoleon (or what was left of him) was still there. By the time they visited again on their return voyage, he'd been shipped off back to France.

KIM KITSURAGI - "Detective, that's a historic wax seal. You shouldn't put it anywhere near your mouth." 1. - "You're right, Kim. I'll put it back in the box." 2. - [Electrochemistry - Heroic] Put the seal in your mouth. 3. - [Esprit de Corps - Legendary] Put the seal in Kim's mouth.
A 1533 wax seal depicting St Francis preaching to the birds. We think this was the specific seal of the Aylesbury house of Franciscan Friars. It's in red wax in a mandorla shape, the vellum strip attaching it to the document still there. It's resting on a wooden table. It looks a bit like a very eatable lozenge.
