The content to the right shows what an activity feed of stuff happening in the Atmosphere might look like. All content is WIP, we'll share more soon.

I’ve written this up here. In addition to there not being a Covid-scale drop in tourism recently, you might also be wondering why visits from Mexico seem to double around 2004-05. The answer is not a sudden shift in Mexican preferences but rather our old friend, There Was A Change In The Measure.

it's particular encouraging because like, this guy is not splitting the atom, he is not doing things that are impossible to do, he is doing consensus stuff that people who are otherwise very mad at/about America are very keen to point out as good. that seems very replicable to me 🙂

I've been both amused and heartened by every time I've traveled outside of the country and people want to tell me how terrible my own center-left party is (like, yes, they could be doing better, not usually a helpful observation) but then they always bring up Mamdani unprompted and loudly praise him

I was in Mexico City recently for work and the entire time I was there, every time I heard "Mexico City" I would hear Fagen saying it

anyway I can’t wait for us to stop antagonizing Canada in a bad way (trade war) and resume antagonizing them in a good way (Boston Bruins)

it very was liberating to move to another country and realize I had way more baggage around whether I was entitled to a sometimes-NYC-sometimes-not identity than anyone else could possibly perceive, because they’d hear me pronounce “coffee” and totally satisfy their mental model

100

I grew up in Connecticut and somehow came out a Bruins fan and a Mets fan and otherwise vaguely contemptuous of all other Boston sports, and honestly *I* want to accuse myself of selectively minmaxing psychological problems here but I don’t think that makes it any less authentic

I think it’s gotta be GOTY honestly. only stuff I’ve liked as much this year was like Esoteric Ebb and Zero Parades and while I certainly love those giant scripts they’re totally derivative of Disco from a gameplay perspective. Honorable mention to Denshattack, Mina…

Padres over Cubs (I’m sad about it too), Phillies/Braves can kill each other then the Dodgers feast on remains, White Sox over Astros, Yankees over Red Sox, Brewers-Padres will be fun and idk about the ALCS but the Dodgers are gonna threepeat

I have very similar friends at very similar life stages in, say, Kingston Ontario and Eugene Oregon or Madison Wisconsin, and that absolutely played a part in my saying, you know what, I’m afraid I’ll feel less marginal in the US

it’s much smaller is the thing. Canadian Asheville is like, Cumberland. and I agree this is off putting and not easily substitutable (I moved back to the US in part b/c I watched my Vancouver friends gradually move to much smaller cities than I was comfortable with)

couldn’t get excited about one of these (already owning a fairly good desktop and a mbp) but got a Frame to scratch my itch for Valve hardware and feeling very good about this decision fwiw
