Ferries are very important to the area. This could ruin your entire commute, and *still* everyone was blaming the correct people. It's giving hope

Ferryworkers went on strike here and the company made a social media post condemning the workers (and posting a deceitful salary implying they were greedy) and I am proud to report 100% of the replies were shaming the company and supporting the strike.

The reason young people vibe with liminal horror is that the wealthy have spent the last half century destroying all anthropological spaces they can exist in, leaving *only* non-places en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-place

That kinda fucks you up. I also grew bitter of my collaborators. You harm writers in so many ways by using AI.

Aleema @aleema.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Within all the latent cruelty of GenAI writing, editorial criticism is now reserved for those who did not use it. I collaborated on a project with someone who used AI on their writing ("english is not my first language") so when the editor came around, my writing received 99% of the markups.

Its really BS that CPS child abuse hotlines can have the shitty tactics to make you hang up like poor quality elevator music, overly complicated phone tree and unnecessary slow-spoken advisements before being able to report child abuse to a child abuse operator

Assholes have always had a platform. What's different is the marginalized are also posting, at a weight that is the most equitable it has ever been in at least our lifetimes.

Social media, as shitty as it can be sometimes, also helps entire swaths of people feel much less alone in their exploitation. Abuse thrives in silence, and people are talking to each other even though there are walls and continents between us.

Aleema @aleema.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
As shitty as the internet is sometimes, it may genuinely increase human rights on a global scale, more than not. The current backlash to reduce human rights is just that. A tantrum, and clambering attempt to maintain power in the face of mass unity.

Thinking about this meme & how the white, both in its generous proportion & description of basic decency as heroic, never sat right with me. We've heard of numerous cases of men drugging wives & inviting men to rape them with NONE reporting it. Where were those "heroes"?

But the lesson I learned was that the "real living breathing world" that they wanted to foster in the game was for violence only. Violence was the game.

Their reasoning was that people might confuse me for a feature in the game, or an admin, because I was being nice. Looking back, yeah, newbies are vulnerable people and do get a grace period of invulnerability, so it probably the right call to tell me to knock it off.

I remember playing Ultima Online (as a literal child) which is a lawless MMO where the player would mug each other and even kill the developers. I chose to help out newbies in the starting village. Even though it had the freedom of people becoming tyrants of lands, an admin banned me.

I work a suicide hotline. I don't consider everyone I talk to resilient. It's specifically the people who keep going even though they don't know why. Some people have reasons, like family, faith, fear of pain. Some people just stubbornly persevere. It's not a strength anyone asks for or wants to use

If Sesame Street isn't publicly owned, I don't want it. I don't want Netflix in control over IP that used to be safe and trustworthy. Comandeering that trust is scary and we should be careful.

So we cannot have this conversation until it is agreed that the status quo is inherently harmful.
000
Aleema @aleema.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
We sell the status quo to kids before they can learn that maybe the status quo should be different. A person with life experience either has learned they benefit from the status quo or doesn't. It makes sense for those that do benefit to shift towards people who still believe in it.

What a 22 year old woman does not see is that moving away strips them of their support network. They see themselves starting a family like their mom and dad, not losing their entire social mobility and creating vulnerable situations prone to abuse. If we ever talk about risks, they are rare.

There are those that are attracted to the beauty of innocence and youth unconsciously. However, you cannot tell any person who grew up during the 'Mary-Kate & Ashley countdown to them turning 18' that there isn't a large portion of men who consciously prey upon young girls for being young.

Both are propped up by the same systems of power that parasite off of society. If you do not believe in these systems even existing, then it can be hard to have this conversation. If we believe men, on the whole, have the best interest of women at heart, then how could love be wrong?

A lot of the dissonance with people who argue age gaps are a ridiculous thing to get upset over do not see the great wave of harm they have historically done. Similar to not understanding why people are up in arms about AI, when it just seems like a rather simple, harmless choice upfront.
100
Aleema @aleema.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
What the conversation around age gaps is *trying* to do is bring to light that the world isn't fair and favors certain people. There is no magical number where that goes away. It's true even when the numbers are the same. It just so happens that sometimes ages can underline it.
100
Aleema @aleema.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Sure, let's talk age gaps. They're fine in a vacuum. A lot of people feel the world is pretty equal for all genders, that there is a level playing field for all the participants. In that world, it would be true that an adult 22yo should be able to date an adult 41y unproblematically.
