I've seen folks point out that Roko's Basilisk is ridiculous in part because it's an atheist, rationalist recreation of Pascal's Wager. Considering where, on the whole, the xenophobia and paternalism of our culture emanates, it makes sense that someone coming up with it as an excuse was inevitable.
