Looney Tunes and Sonic are less associated with the furry fandom than Zootopia (Looney Tunes and Sonic fit more into the “funny animal” category than traditional “furry”), and both franchises are multiple decades old compared to Zootopia.

I’d say the songs, yeah. I don’t think the “furry” aspect would turn off casual families from watching Zootopia 2. Zootopia is just not as popular on Disney+ compared to Moana.

Yeah. WB kept the rights to Ray Gunn since they absorbed its original owner Turner Feature Animation in 1996. Brad Bird would return to WB years later after Incredibles 2 to revive the project before it ended up at Skydance.

I think Ray Gunn should have remained at Warner Animation Group where it would have been 2D. It had some work done there (one of the 2D animators of Space Jam 2 had it on his LinkedIn) before AT&T’s Warner deal and the pandemic got in the way of that.

Imagine if Skydance does so badly that Paramount and Warner Bros end up becoming mini-majors rather than actual major studios, while Disney, Universal, Sony, and even Amazon remain on top. David Ellison would have to live with the scar that says “I destroyed 2 Hollywood symbols”.

Toy Story 5 is apparently not getting that much views on Disney+ in its 2nd week despite a strong start, falling behind Moana 2, Zootopia 2, and Inside Out 2. This may be a given since Toy Story isn’t super big on Disney+ compared to those 3 properties, plus Frozen and Cars.

Before people start pointing fingers at Vanguard Animation: They have NO involvement with Gnome Alone’s sequel like they did with the first film. This is a Happily N’Ever After 2 kinda deal than Space Chimps 2. Sucks nonetheless that the studio taking Vanguard’s place uses AI.

Fun fact: The Japan-exclusive Nintendo DS tie-in game for the gay goat and wolf movie Arashi No Yoru Ni (“One Stormy Night”) has no full playthough video on YouTube, at least one I could easily find. I think the ones playing the game were so confused on how it worked 😭

Reminds me of the time I unwittingly and regrettably worked as a background extra on a right-wing Roe v Wade movie, something that they deliberately hid from us when we signed up. That production got kicked off site once the location figured out what kind of movie it was.

This Hexed trailer is a big improvement from the first trailer. Shows more of the mom and daughter relationship that’s meant to be the main hook, has better humor, and shows off a character who will likely be my favorite: Beef Roger Crumbchuck.

And they also got the North American rights of RKO’s library (minus remake/sequel rights), including “King Kong” and “Citizen Kane”. Exceptions included “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Bells of St. Mary’s”, both belong to Paramount, now Skydance like the Turner-RKO catalog.

With this, Warner got access to massive properties they still use to this day: Scooby-Doo, Flintstones, Tom & Jerry, Nightmare on Elm Street, the most iconic Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Christmas Story, among others. And it FINALLY gave WB the full Looney Tunes library again.

I almost forgot that today’s the 30th anniversary of the late Ted Turner’s company (owner of Hanna-Barbera, New Line Cinema, CNN, Cartoon Network, pre-1986 MGM films, and the 30s and 40s WB color cartoons) merging with Time Warner. Probably the least crappy WB merger to date.

I highly doubt Ray Gunn would win if it got a Best Animated Feature Oscar nomination, considering Wildwood has a stronger chance. Also, Brad Bird confirmed that David Ellison was mostly hands-off with Ray Gunn, so Ellison will try claiming credit for it like he did with Top Gun Maverick’s success.
