Never mind the naffness of the Conservatives’ Bayeux tapestry, it’s just such an odd thing to do for a party that has repeatedly seemed offbeat and unserious in recent years. Shouldn’t they be trying to look like responsible adults?

People need to think more clearly about how badly Badenoch comes across during every local election or party conference. Her alright personal ratings are primarily a consequence of people not really paying attention. She is simply not up to a general election campaign, let alone leading a government

I just caught up with the Doublespeak album (covers by Vince Clarke, Neil Arthur and Benge). Maddeningly uneven. Four or five great tracks, some real clunkers too. Rock On and Smoke & Mirrors are the highlights for me.

I’m a lot more sympathetic towards Ed Davey’s leadership of the Lib Dems than many but if they aren’t preparing a grand appeal to Greens appalled by the Zionism is Racism motion, they’re comatose.

1/ Hundreds of Russian soldiers near Lyman surrendered because they were starving and drinking their own urine, according to first-hand accounts from frontline soldiers. The officers are said to have taken the radios and ran away, while ordering the men not to retreat. ⬇️

Kemi Badenoch condemned Reform's ban on critical journalists covering their conference as "authoritarian", saying her own party would never do the same as "we believe in free speech. We believe in a free press." Now the Conservatives have banned Byline Times from their conference

I am not fussed about unravelling past titles etc of Man City (it's impossible anyway because some teams would not have been relegated and so the next season's results are unknowable). But they should be forced to financially compensate teams who lost out because of their cheating.

If the sharp decrease in tolerance for gay rights among Dutch youth would be mainly because of "the manosphere" and "far-right parties" than why don't we see a similar development in the U.S., where both are (much) worse... Is there something specifically Dutch? 🧵
