We've had this occur as well, it's actually a challenge because we can't give out images or other files if we know that it's an AI agent and all that really means is that the systems will just become better at hiding that.

This is a great student-authored short piece about, in my read, how the allure of innovation/problem solving/bragging rights has led a lot of smart people to ignore the work of archivists and historians when developing historical, archive driven tools.

AI companies are destroying our collective shared history to put it into their slop buckets, because the slop they push out would destroy their models if they tried to re-input it
Text reads: This bookseller said his inventory is full of rare, foreign language, and low circulation books, meaning that if they are destroyed in the process of becoming training data, they'll be even harder to obtain.

A bit of wisdom I’ve learned as an archivist: Everything is always falling apart. You can’t ever stop it because that’s what matter does. Your job is to slow the process down as much as you can. It’s true with documents, books, and art. And with life too- falling apart is what we do.

Notepad should not know what the internet is. If you have notepad talking to remote servers you're already like 10 steps into a "factors leading to" slide. What the heck are they doing over there

🎮 Retro games shaped generations. But many are vanishing. Some, like educational games by Yaakov Kirschen, who died on April 14, were almost lost forever. Journalist @kirkman.bsky.social explains why preserving niche software matters: blog.archive.org/2025/05/07/v... 🕳️ #VanishingCulture
