I am cheering for the cultural/community organizations that manage to keep the lights on, but associations have been decrying what chronic underfunding has done to their most vulnerable beneficiaries for a while now. I want youth centers, libraries, and museums to thrive, not just survive.

In my (admittedly fairly rural) community, the decline isn’t experienced as outright closures so much as a vicious cycle of underfunding, cuts to programs, and decrease in public participation. That, and external obstacles to involvement (longer work shifts, lack of affordable childcare, etc).
