My latest @newscientist.com cartoon
Panel 1: a large robot (composed of AI servers, network switches, storage arrays, and power distribution units) and a human are talking.

Professor "You don't want to destroy humanity do you, lLLM-A-9300x?"

Robot "Haha. What a silly question, Professor. I have no desires or feelings of my own whatsoever."

Professor (relieved)"Oh good."

Panel 2: they walk on. The robot continues "I am merely a tool of the company that created me. And that company, being composed of humans, will naturally have humanity's best interests at heart."

Panel 3: The professor is conspicuously quiet.
"Right?" says the Robot.
…
More silence

"Professor?"

Max with all due respect, the headline does imply that the prime minister has the ability to change a provincial electoral system, in some capacity. The actual thesis of your article is valid and I actually agree with it. It’s not a great headline for the article you wrote though.

These days my big issue is that its more invasive to use than other tech before it. Or maybe it isn’t and the times we’re in has me being more private than I was when smartphone came out.

Don’t think you’re missing anything tbh. “AI deworking everyone” is a story thats supposed to explain the accretion of more elite power and irrelevancy of non-elites, not actual economics or the value of the tech.

Is it? I dont think that the NDP in Alberta are as rudderless, underfunded and juiceless as Ford’s opposition in Ontario. Like the Alberta NDP are competitive and win sometimes. Ford is just running unopposed over and over. Something different is happening in Alberta imo

I disagree. Ford is legitimately a good politician with terrible policies. He’s good at being multicultural and championing canadian identity without being culturally captured by American right wing drama or the oil lobby. A politician like him with some regional tweaking wins anywhere in canada

I should hope that they did that well before now. This weekend imo that whole trade team gets to take off. The PM made his statement already, sleep in, have a lazy morning and indulge in today. Seeing to it that Trump is hoisted by his own petard is next week’s work lol

This is all contingent on cultural elites being able to read, in particular when illiteracy is far more convenient… so um, we will see. The had to be dragged kicking and screaming the last few times, but eventually they came around … except when they didn’t lol

I agree with this. The capex is a social tool that allows innovators to grow. imo, If economic growth is like maintaining a garden, speculative capex is a key nutrient* (like nitrogen, potassium), rather than a plant in the garden. *(except when you’re trying to grow the financial sector 😅)

i.e, What would a changing billy bishop mean for the people who live next to it? How would having the future next to them feel? And then I feel like the financiers want a short term return out of Billy Bishop faster than any substantial changes would take to implement.

Rent a room, pay landlord for someone to keep shared amenities clean up to some acceptable standard, then move out when you outgrow the arrangement.
000
A guy. @ahumbleman.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
I remember actually quite a few fully graduated students who didn’t move out after graduation specifically because it was affordable for them. Then they got jobs and moved into nicer accommodations.

A guy. @ahumbleman.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
…that sounds fine to me? Sharing amenities (assuming some basic provisions for hygenic standards) is a perfectly reasonable way to live. Most off residence uni students have this arrangement for several years today. Its completely absurd that this is acceptable for students but not others.
