Why does this app always slow down the longer i use it? So frustrating! Probably why i haven't been online in a while. 🙄

Lots of reading, lots of tv, computer chess, and organizing my desk (top. Actually, my whole harddrive.) And tomorrow I'm supposed to get an eye exam? 😬 😅 have actually been watching TMNT cartoons too, but not this version (the original 80s ones)

And no session here these days would be really complete without Jamie Bower. And omg, look it's fetus Jamie! 💕 Btw, why is there not a JCB feed here yet? He's clearly very popular! 🤔

😂👍 Ah, so i probably didn't pick the peak time to come back to bluesky for the #mychemicalromance concert content, but can still enjoy the band stuff. Any of my oomfs see them? I doubt I'll ever be able to at this point. Expensive, crowded, chaotic, but still love them and love you fans!

Also i am not a big fan of this modern AI or just video editing age where one can be tricked into thinking something is real. Like the Keanu Reeves playing the modern Dracula (as Dracula) was disappointing and now i come to find out that Rachel Weisz isn't actually Circe in Odessy or anything. 😓

On the subject of adaptation vs reimagining, i think the book i just finished These Violent Delights qualifies as a reimagining. I very much enjoyed the setting of 1927 Shanghai and gang war and the additional threat that took the forefront of the classic love story. #booksky

I actually earnestly love that everyone's talking about The Odyssey & translations & adaptations & cinema, & talking about the ways in which we discuss those things; I love seeing thoughtful people thinking together in public, building on each other's knowledge & perspectives! however,

I am thinking about adaptation & what I call the Tey Rule. Josephine Tey said the below in Daughter of Time. Adaptations must change as they’re different mediums - but keep the core of characters and themes. ‘THIS character wouldn’t do THIS murder’ & if they do, we lose the suspension of disbelief.

I guess for me the difference is an adaptation looks at the correct truths of a character and adds to the original sandbox to see how they'd react, while a reimagining rebuilds the sandbox and the character with slightly different materials and sees how they interact under these new circumstances.

Those are interesting differentiations and I would agree adaptation and reimagining are different things! But we all parse those differently, too, and can get mad if presented with a reimagining when we expected an adaptation.
