White gowns with black soutache braid were popular ensembles in the 1860s & early 1860s, representative of summer days & relaxation. In James Tissot’s 1870 painting it appeared in the form of The Convalescent, a young woman recuperating @metmuseum.org @agotoronto.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

The Impressionist Revolution: Monet to Matisse is on at the @agotoronto.bsky.social until October 18. The exhibition is included in the price of admission. (If you have an OCT card, you can sign up for an AGO membership for free.) What a lovely way to spend a rainy Tuesday. ago.ca/exhibitions/...
A round painting of water lilies by Claude Monet in pale shades of pink, green and blue. It’s in an ornate gold frame against a dark purple wall.

“This work is one of 48 paintings that Monet produced for his 1909 Water Lilies exhibition at the Galerie Durand-Ruel in Paris. The tondo (circular) format, which recalls Renaissance models, is particularly rare in Monet’s work and is one of only four known examples.”
