I made the mistake years back of trusting the rtc on industrial PCs that I was installing on cargo ships, and I'd have to adjust data points by multiple minutes to make them line up. Eventually the clocks got so wrong it broke tls

There is a box with a solenoid above my desk at work. I know this because, a few times a day, it decides "IT'S CLICKIN' TIME!!!" and it flips back and forth for like an hour

I once got an offer after showing up 15 minutes late for an in person loop. I was sweating because I ran to the office after getting lost, and I did most of the interview in a tee shirt. If everything's already gone to hell, just start walking back out

I would respond to the original scheduling email, let them know you didn't notice the day also changed, and ask if you can reschedule. The worst they'll do is ignore you, and that's the boat you're already in. If you're otherwise promising, they'll reschedule.

Once in a coffee shop just off Emory University's campus, I encountered a girl wearing a red shirt that said, "ASK ME WHAT I'M DOING TONIGHT." Uncharacterized, I hollered, "Hey Red, what are you doing tonight?" from across the coffee shop. It was a campus outreach program.

The dream solution for me is a homelab, browser driven photo gallery + raw processing tool. I'm sad it doesn't exist yet

I would very much like a raw image processing tool that isn't hot garbage

My turbo gloves were reusable neoprene gloves made for chemistry labs, but honestly 5 mil nitrile gloves _that aren't too small_ hold up really well. Latex gloves fall apart at the drop of a hat, and too-small gloves just frustrate.

Christopher "the" Agocs @agocs.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Also I wear nitrile gloves when I'm actually loading / unloading the dishwasher. If my hands aren't getting wet / dirty I mind the process less.

It's a little wasteful but I've got my entire family using compostable plates most days, and in return we really only have to run the dishwasher a few times a week (children are machines that turn Cheezits into dirty dishes)

I've been linuxing on the regular for the last 24 years or so, and I'm still not quite confident when I go to run a script inside a subdirectory of my pwd. E.g. ./foo/bar.sh _is_ right but _feels_ wrong although I can't put my finger on what it should be

It's really good at taking an idea to execution, doing mundane research, and making non-decisions. I've given it tasks in problem domains I know well, and it performs well. I'm happy to give it tasks in problem domains I know less well.

It searched Marketplace for used synthesizers I could buy for my sister as a wedding present. I knew next to nothing about synths, and now I've bought two. I had it pick lens caps for my vintage cameras. I got the ick from a YouTube ad and it confirmed the company is funded by ethical altruists.

I gave it limited ability to ssh into my home network via tailscale and limited accounts on a couple machines. It's keeping an eye on how much TV my son watches during the day. I had it mine social media for good places to take pictures of JDM cars in Vancouver.

A couple weeks ago when my parents visited, I had it figure out how to buy whale watching and scenic railroad tickets. It just did it.

For example, the other weekend I noticed my water filter was blinking orange. It was able to dig through purchase history, figure out the right replacement filter, and order it. All I had to do was answer one or two "Approve" prompts.

Muse is contentious, but I work there, I understand the security model, and I've seen the people working on it do the right thing over and over again. I've given it limited ability to buy things for me and credentials for websites. It's good for just doing annoying tasks.

I also gave it access to my Home Assistant and had it automate the watering of the hydrangeas my wife planted in full sun in the dead of summer. It did a surprisingly good job.

Hermes (with DeepSeek attached) did some coding tasks for me with mixed results. I gave it a task to repeatedly query the booking tool for a popular website to find the first weekend with availability and it went off and did that.

Christopher "the" Agocs @agocs.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Hermes is much more of a product; their big advantage is they run a router and you can choose your model. I had good experiences with DeepSeek, and my spend was like $20/mo. It also could drive a browser right out of the box (I had to fight OpenClaw to get it to do that).
110
Christopher "the" Agocs @agocs.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
OpenClaw's problem, among many, is it runs on Claude and my Claude spend was like $50/mo. Also it would just break at random. Very much a hobby protect.
110
Christopher "the" Agocs @agocs.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
OpenClaw was a little broken, but it could still handle tasks like "hey, the RC car park in Munroe, does it have any events going on today?" It could find the park, pull up the Instagram and the website, parse the calendar, and determine if there's something going on. Meanwhile, I'm with my family.

Coding and stupid questions are both well trod areas, so I'm going to talk about general purpose agents. I've used three: OpenClaw, Hermes, and Muse.
