And surely someone out there is dressing up as one of Sophie's characters for Book Week
Do you ever run into kids that are dressed up as your characters for Book Week?

Not yet, unfortunately. One day, fingers crossed, one day it’ll happen.Colourful covers of three Sophie Beer books - Kindness Makes Us Strong; Change Starts with Us; Love Makes a Family.

2007 Birds of Australia. A kingfisher sitting on a branch with a blue sky background. Raising money for BirdLife Australia and The Indigenous Literacy FoundationHi there!

For the past seven years I've been printing off some pretty rudimentary bird calendars using highlights from my photography and selling them to raise money for charity.

Every cent that comes in above my printing and postage costs is donated at the end of this whole procedure, with money split between Birdlife Australia and The Indigenous Literacy Foundation. So far we've raised a tick over $90,000!

You can read a nice article about the whole project on the ILF website.

A kava-drinking riff on John Wick is Jone Wise.
Dark-looking film poster for Jone Wise. A person wearing a sulu and carrying a bag and kava ladle (sorry, I'm not sure of the correct word) is silhouetted on a black background by a light shining from behind them.

This is fascinating! Triploid!
King’s lomatia is a triploid – it has three sets of chromosomes, and can’t reproduce sexually or develop seed. The species can only spread vegetatively through underground runners, or when a branch falls to the ground and begins to take root. As a result, the individual trees in the known colony are genetically identical and may have been propagating for 43,600 years, making it one of the world’s oldest known plant clones.

I'm not sure which paragraph of this article is most disturbing, but this is one sure is up there. www.smh.com.au/world/north-...
“The Constitution is clear – and that is of course the supreme law of the land – that the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus can be suspended in a time of invasion,” he [White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller] told reporters at the White House. “So, it’s an option we are actively looking at. A lot of it depends on whether the courts do the right thing or not.”

Yesterday’s trip to the book fair finally provided me with the last in the How Green was my Valley series by Richard Llewellyn. I read the first book in my 20s and only then realised how much Welsh heritage had subconsciously infiltrated my brain. The language felt oddly comforting.

Today the hands were gone from the street pole, but were sighted on a tree. A new installation was a small pile of mulch on a nature strip, topped by a handwritten sign.
A4 piece of paper stapled to a tree trunk, depicting various humanesque hands with too many fingers. The tree trunk is surrounded by other plantlife, with a fence in the background. On a lawn, a small pile of mulch is topped with a small wooden sign, on which I think is written ‘Dog poos’ in black texta.

The neighbourhood’s weird street art continues. I’m choosing to take this one as a commentary on the suffocating ubiquity and ultimate uselessness of AI.
An electricity pole with eight or so A4 sheets of paper stapled to it. Each sheet contains the same image several times at different levels of magnification: a humanesque hand with too many fingers, on a black background.
