Further updates for the Brown County #FallColors report: there was more color yesterday than the day before and our roads will be jammed this weekend. #photograpraphy #woods #fall #color #Indiana
Tall trees below a blue sky streaked with clouds shows off shades of orange and red with a little yellow as well.At a pond, trees with orange and yellow leaves are threaded through green pines.

Time for an update on #FallColors in south central #Indiana: it's finally arriving. Last week's leaf peepers got almost nothing for their efforts but this week's should be much happier. Colors look nice in light fog. #photography #woods #trees #color #fog
Green leaves make a frame for woods that are a mix of green, yellow, orange, and red.The view from the end of my drive down my road is a mix of green, yellow, light orange, and bright orange with all the colors seen through a light fog.

Finishing up at 1st hop Hocking Hills State Park of the Park Hopper trip with some of the fine CCC (see ALT for more INFO) stone work at the park. Sometimes you find the stonework along side modern structures and other times it's ancient ones. #photography #parks #Ohio #hiking
In this photo part of modern concrete bridge built after a severe flood took out 7 wooden bridges is seen with the end of the bridge resting a CCC constructed round stone wall. The Civilian Conservation Corps was started in the Depression to give work and shelter to men 18-25. The CCC worked in many national and state parks, including the state park just a few miles from my home. Here's a link about the work of CCC in Indiana: https://www.in.gov/dnr/state-parks/cultural-resources-and-history/the-new-deal-and-indiana-state-parks/

The best stone work I've seen done by the CCC was at Watkins Glen State Park in New York. Watkins Glen is natural wonder and the stone work is a human wonder.Below a very large alcove call Old Man's Cave is a beautiful stone wall. There are tiny dots in the cave and behind the stone wall which are people, giving an indication of the size of both.

Flit's #MondayMorning Wisdom: You can be aware of how most have reacted to the same situation in the past and still choose a different path. IOW, going to the vet is no big deal. #dogs #dogsofbluesky
Three dogs in the exam at the vets. All are at the door. Hopeful a coonhound has is standing over Sniff, a beagle mix while Giddy, a malamutt stands panting with her tongue out. Note: nothing had even happened yet.Flit, a medium-sized chestnut colored dog, lies on the floor of the exam room. She's already been to be weighed and to have blood drawn but she's completely relaxed. Our vet has pronounced her a very chill dog. Flit likes people and loves attention so she's happy to go to the vet.

Super intelligence at work: the NYT Wordle Bot shows going from 29 to 2 earns a luck score of 64 but determines that making the right choice from 2 possible words has a luck score of 75.
The image shows that when I went from 29 words left to 2 words, my luck score was 64 but when I picked the right word from 2, my luck score was 75.

More at 1st hop Hocking Hills State Park of the Park Hopper trip: part of state encircling Buckeye Trail goes through the park. Here we're picking our way through and even inside the rock-strewn trail. #photography #StateParks #Ohio #hiking
A hiking trail hemmed on one side by a cliff and the other large boulders goes on and through a jumble of good-sized rocks. The trail goes through a passage made by a cliff on one side and a huge boulder (probably a massive chunk that split off from the cliff) and comes out through a triange-shaped opening. There are carved stone steps leading down.

Next at 1st hop Hocking Hills State Park of the Park Hopper trip is the charming Cedar Falls illustrating the cliff and cave making tendencies of the Black Hand Sandstone. #photography #StateParks #Ohio #waterfalls #WaterfallWednesday #hiking
All the falls in the park were the late summer doldrums with low flow but Cedar Falls is actually more interesting with less flow because of the way it flows around the protruding rock in in its center. This is a wide shot show the falls in situ showing the sandstone layers, ledges, alcoves, and even a small cave. A close up photo of the falls as it flows around the protruding rock. To its right is a small cave. The falls hits a ledge for a second small drop before it reaches a pool.

Ready to start posting photos from our recent Park-Hopper trip. First hop was Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio which provided lots of photo ops. Today it's the very pretty approach to Cedar Falls. #photography #hiking #creeks #cliffs #Ohio
Queer Creek at this time was placid, nicely reflecting the tree and moss-covered rocks which line its banks. The same creek still lined with trees but now with one of the Black Hand Sandstone formation cliffs in the background.

It's Flit's Gotcha Day. Happy 5th anniversary to Flit, Jim, and me. She came to a local volunteer rescue group from Tennessee which was overloaded with strays from flooding in late August, 2021. Left photo from that day and right from this week. #dogs #dogsofbluesky #gotchaday #Adoptdontshop
A small chestnut colored approximately 6 month old dog with a big puppy head and black muzzle lies on a blanket on a car seat. From day one she was relaxed and happy; so though we'll never know about first 6 months, we're pretty sure that nothing horrible happened to her.The same dog, body having long since caught up to the big head, rides in a hammock in the rear seat of a car. She is leaning over the hammock. She still looks relaxed and happy.

An artist had to cut down a tree and, naturally, made art out of it. #photography #art #StreetArt #ColumbusIndiana
The split trunk of a tree by a sidewalk is covered in art. One split has a slinky cat and a small owl below it. The other split has a dog with its eyes looking up at an owl above it. The drawings are cartoon-like rather than realistic. This side has a very stylized cat covered in colorful designs and a raccoon with abstract designs around it. In the unpictured crotch of the tree, there is a sloth.

More September vacations -- the in and outs of the highest tide in the world, aka the Bay of Fundy. #photography #oceans #tides #rocks #Canada #HopewellRocks
At high tide the ocean reaches up the shore's cliffs. The rocks in the ocean looks to be floating on water. The tide can be has high as 52 feet (16 meters). In this photo the tide had already started going out.Now at low tide, there ocean can only be seen in the distance, the 'floating rocks are show to be on pedestals or to have a structure that was just a little nubbin when the tide was in.

We got home yesterday from a park hopping trip to Ohio's Hocking Hills State Park, then New York's Letchworth State Park & finally New York's High Peaks area of the vast Adirondack Park. Lots of photos to sort through but here's a quick taste of each place. #photography #hiking #rocks #Ohio #NewYork
The Buckeye Trail (a long trail that "circles" Ohio) passes through -- literally -- Hocking Hills. In this case, the trail goes through a crack in the cliffs. Stone steps lead up to the crack. The only bridge that cross the Genesee River in Letchworth State Park is a beautiful stone bridge. The Lower Falls (yes there are Upper and Middle Falls) is visible in the distance. In the Adirondacks, trails mostly go up and are mostly steep. In this case a series of wooden steps takes one up a steep section. Mountains are visible in the distance and fall color is starting to come.

The Friday Archive Dive towers above all. Taken #OnThisDay September 25, 2022 #photography #France #Nimes [Info in ALT]
View across Nimes from the Musée de la Romanité This is a black and white photo across the rooftops of Nimes with the Tour Magne in the center and the spire of Église Saint-Paul. Don't remember what the one on the right is. The Tour Magne is a stone tower over 2000 years old and is only remaining vestige of the ancient fortifications of Nîmes built by the emperor Augustus. The original Celtic tower was 60 feet (18 m) high. The emperor Augustus enlarged it to 92 feet (28m) high.

I loved the many dry stone walls I saw during the 50+ miles we walked in the Cotswolds in 2023 but this one was my favorite (and easily the longest). #photography #hiking #England #Cotwolds
This wall went on for a 1/4 mile along a lovely tree-lined path. The path was dappled with shadows and the trees were formed an arch over the path from both sides. The wall had been there long enough to have gathered moss, especially along the top. We wondered what could be on the other side to require such a long wall (far longer than any other one we'd seen).

This is the North Cape on Prince Edward Island. At low tide, it stretches about 1.2 miles (2 km) into the ocean and is the longest reef in North America. The little dots seen at the end of the reef are the reward for the walk. The end of the reef was full of gulls and cormorants. Also present is a seal that is doing an imitation of a mermaid. That old style pole keeps giving me such good photo ops that I'm starting to think of it as Brown County's version of Rockport's Motif #1. #photography #light #fog #woods #Indiana
