Guess what I learned yesterday! Starting last year, all approvals of subsidized HRT prescriptions (blå resept) from NBTK have been given a two year time limit. They used to be lifelong. So anyone who started HRT there after 2024 needs to go back and beg for a renewal every two years 😳

in traditional italian culture, the faggotto is thought of as a holy person, typically filling a role of introducing men to sex. "faggotto" roughtly translates to "pathetic man-woman thing." it is not used in a derogatory way here, but simply as a descriptor.

Textually she/her trans women routinely get called men, drag queens, and are he/him’d, but luckily Cavanagh shows that he can grant trans men (here textually he/him) the greatest honour a cis scholar can grant: the transphobic they/them

One extremely interesting transgressive account can be found in Lucian's Dialogues of the Courtesans, specifically the dialogues of Laeana and Clonarium.! Laeana tells the latter of guests she was entertaining (named Megilla/Demonassa respectively) who attempted to seduce her. Clonarium notes that there are such women in Lesbos, who are 'man-faced' and prefer to have sex with other women rather than men. During this seduction Megilla removes a wig to reveal a shaved head and declares oneself to be a man called Megillus, with Demonassa as her wife. While this segment is extremely interesting in itself, what follows is even more intriguing. Laeana next questions Megillus, asking if they had a penis or were hermaphroditic, or if they were like the prophet Tieresias; 49 to all of these questions, Megillus says no, claiming that they are
'completely a man, and that they do not need a penis at all, as one will 'see me associating with a woman in a way of my own only much sweeter. Megillus also states that they were born a woman "just like you' but that they had 'the mind and desire and everything else like a man. Finally, Laeana admits to her friend that she consented to sex afterward yet remains utterly ashamed of the entire matter.
Not only does this tale provide one of the most interesting accounts of feminine transgression in antiquity, but it shows an unrepentant individual (Megilla/ Megillus) who appears to identify as a male; therefore, the account could be interpreted as not only a transgressive case of a female (in her assertive, active sexual behaviour towards Demonassa and Laeana), but an ancient equivalent of a transgender person.

I did hear this language from a trans person IRL, but in like 2010, and I saw arcane variations on it online later, but in the last decade at least, it's been exclusively from cis people. It cedes too much to cissexism, so of course we rejected it and of course cis people love it
