Yes but you can at least get more mainstream answers to things like "is the church turing thesis probably true" "what can you learn in principle from text" "are millennial prize math problems hard"

TESCREAL is a shame partially because it (or at least its reading by most people employing it) flattens some massive, diverse work into whatever the weirdest assholes in the field were doing at some point in time

General purpose classification of questionable quality! Like, that should be target #1 for people worried about training data induced bias

Somehow Jev has not yet triggered much discussion of cheap, low-latency, general-purpose classification as infrastructure for targeted oppression.

x.com/advadnoun/st... I looked at wikirace for RL for LLMs at one point. If they benchmarked with it for the demo, they probably didn't train on it, but imho a reasonable general + verifiable task to give!

if you wonder 'why does it feel like all the expertise is draining out of the public sphere' then you kinda have to grapple with the fact that displaying expertise is often an all expenses paid trip to the omelas hole

this is all fascinating but I think this is the most interesting thing: you get some extremely screwy incentive behavior if the agent believes it cannot legitimately achieve its goal

Left top and penultimate show the difference between Thomas Jones' existence or non-existence in the data. (Functionally none.)
This demonstrates that at large training set sizes it not only becomes infeasible to attribute generated images to training images, it also becomes infeasible to attribute generated people to the real people the model was trained on, and to attribute generated artwork to the artists the model was trained on.

i can barely express how much of a shocking outlier this is when you read flow-matching or diffusion codebases. not every one has to be like this! some are going to end up putting their explanation just... in the paper. but it's really a beauty to see here

like a lot of folks, I was skeptical about using coding assistants & yet in the last half-year they've rapidly become very, very useful. but i also don't use them often in my side projects because i want to write maybe-even-beautiful code that explains things to people!

There's a lot going into it but re negative public sentiment on datacenters: - I *do* read experts saying you shouldn't build them in e.g. desert states (bad news: guess which states are red & will grab them) even though they're totally fine elsewhere.

Generalized the rule from youtu.be/UiX4CFIiegM to find interesting special cases. In this one, black knights can be placed in view of black and teal but not red; red knights in view of black and red but not teal; and teal knights in view of none. I have no idea why it spirals like this!
