Niemoller was right of course but so was Fred Hampton, shortly before his murder by CPD and the FBI. The simple answer is also the speedy one. Nobody goes. We all stay right here with the people.

Part of this morning's haul of vintage tools, toys and random weird things from the local flea market. Not pictured: a lovely anvil I didn't lug upstairs for the picture, it was hard enough getting it to the car. Some will be used as tools, some will end up in a sculpture, all are treasures.
A collection of objects sitting on a white background. There are perfect screwdrivers, tiny screwdrivers, wrenches, files, children's shoe forms, metal toy soldiers, fishing reels, optometrist widgets, old colored pencils in original packaging, toy blocks, a hand-carved and hand-painted wooden puppet, a nifty wooden box. Fun!

"AI" reveals the fundamental incompatibility of oligarchic and ordinary worldviews. The former's Utopia is the latter's Hell: a future in which human desires, aspirations, and shortcomings are all irrelevant to economic growth and social evolution. A world in which people quite simply do not matter.

From artist Joan Semmel, a good credo for anyone doing creative work:
“On one hand, you say, ‘What am I doing wrong?’ On the other hand, you say, ‘Fuck you. I’m good and you’re wrong,’” she said. “Who’s right? I don’t know. But it’s like, ‘This is who I am, this is what I do, and this is what I care about.’ So you just keep doing it.”

I woke up today thinking about Betye Saar, still creating at 99.
Betye Saar, Black Girl's Window, 1969 . Assemblage sculpture; the silhouette of a Black woman looking out a window, her hands pressed against the frame, nine smaller boxes within the frame contain illustrations and figures. Betye Saar, A Different Destiny, 2024 . Assemblage sculpture; a tall and narrow hinged box is open. The left side contains an circuit board with microchips, the right side, lined with canvas painted black except for small horizontal strips down the left and a long vertical stripe down the right, contains an African-style wooden carving of a Black woman in a dress.

Peleus' son had a terrible fit,
Oompa Loompa, that is it.

It brought the Greeks a lot of pain,
And sent many souls to the dark domain.
The heroes were left for the dogs to chew,
