it's crazy to think that obama lost 63 seats after making healthcare more accessible and affordable but after covering up a child rape ring, losing a war to iran, paramilitary forces in neighborhoods, concentration camps, bribery, treason, the very worst that trump could do is maybe 2/3 of that

10. Here's how I explained it last week to Alex Wise, host of Sea Change Radio, when he noted that what reporters agree on is that America is a center-right nation:
Yeah that’s what they agree on. I mean what they are really agreeing on, and they won’t say it, is that the true center of power in America is whiteness, and the true consensus is white supremacy. That’s what they’re really saying, but they’re not gonna say that, because that would be gauche. That would be impolite or some other word that a snob might use. But that’s what they’re really saying, though. And by the way, that's why the press looks at the Democrats as slightly illegitimate, because the Democrats are a multiracial, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious party, whereas the Republicans are white, white and white, all the way through. They therefore represent to the media, politically, historically and culturally, an automatic natural legitimacy. That I wish more people would really understand. That is the double standard that animates all of political journalism.

somehow democrats have to be able to communicate to low-info voters that the republican is more than likely a toddler-beating, puppy-killing, child-raping, money-laundering, nazi-maxxing psychopathic snuff-film addict while the democrat is by and large a normal person with good intentions

This is what I'm referring to btw, visually. Sure, the gap would be smaller if we had a higher minimum wage and/or stronger unions, but there would still be a gap. The one sure way to close that gap is through a UBI, and the great benefit of doing it via UBI is to also reach all unpaid workers too.

A political cartoon depicts a wooden table splitting a room. On the left sits a somber, impoverished family with a child, representing refugees. In the center sit three world leaders in matching blue suits—Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Benjamin Netanyahu—behind a plate stacked high with cookies. Trump points at the family while a speech bubble reads, "CAREFUL... THESE VIOLENT INVADERS WANT YOUR COOKIES!" On the right, a working-class man wearing a hard hat and safety vest looks on thoughtfully, with the flags of the EU, Canada, and the UK overlaid on him. He has a small plate containing only a single cookie.

One of Paxton’s central arguments is that fascism is a tendency that exists in virtually every modern society. Whether it coheres into a movement capable of taking and exerting state power is a question of how political, economic, and social elites act in relation to it.
THE ANATOMY OF FASCISM
• the right of the chosen people to dominate others without restraint from any kind of human or divine law, right being decided by the sole criterion of the group's prowess within a Darwinian struggle.
Fascism according to this definition, as well as behavior in keeping with these feelings, is still visible today. Fascism exists at the level of Stage One within all democratic countries-not excluding the United States.
"Giving up free institutions," especially the freedoms of unpopular groups, is recurrently attractive to citizens of Western democracies, including some Americans. We know from tracing its path that fascism does not require a spectacular "march" on some capital to take root; seemingly anodyne decisions to tolerate lawless treatment of national "enemies" is enough. Something very close to classical fascism has reached Stage Two in a few deeply troubled societies. Its further progress is not inevitable, however. Further fascist advances toward power depend in part upon the severity of a crisis, but also very largely upon human choices, especially the choices of those holding economic, social, and political power. Determining the appropriate responses to fascist gains is not easy, since its cycle is not likely to repeat itself blindly. We stand a much better chance of responding wisely, however, if we understand how fascism succeeded in the past.

In his 2004 book, The Anatomy of Fascism, historian Robert Paxton identified the passions that had animated fascistic political cultures over the previous 80 years. These may sound familiar.
eelings t
hem "mobilizing passions":
• a sense of overwhelming crisis beyond the reach of any traditional solutions;
• the primacy of the group, toward which one has duties superior to every right, whether individual or universal, and the subordination of the individual to it;
• the belief that one's group is a victim, a sentiment that justifies any action, without legal or moral limits, against its enemies, both internal and external;
• dread of the group's decline under the corrosive effects of individualistic liberalism, class conflict, and alien influences;
• the need for closer integration of a purer community, by consent if possible, or by exclusionary violence if necessary;
• the need for authority by natural chiefs (always male), culminating in a national chieftain who alone is capable of incarnating the group's historical destiny;
• the superiority of the leader's instincts over abstract and universal
reason;
• the beauty of violence and the efficacy of will, when they are devoted to the group's success;
