Please feel free to suggest whatever version of Linux will require the least typing of commands into the console to do what I want. It doesn't make me feel like a cool hacker, it makes me want to start the Butlerian Jihad and then go live in a convent in the mountains.

I'm finally moving to Linux and not enjoying a moment of it. This feels like homework 😞 I tell myself it will pay off. It will be worth the effort. It's more private and configurable than Windows. It also feels like it's more tedious to use for the sheer joy of tedium.

Mom's watching House of the Dragon as I install a new AC and my takeaway is that god loves Dagon (based on how many close calls he escapes without skill) and that there's so many times someone had him at their mercy and they were too stupid to kill him despite him being known as a backstabbing git.

To a humble spirit, the moral of the story might seem to be that one should not be taking shortcuts through the woods barefoot at sundown. I think the moral of the story is to outrun death if you're fast enough. Flexible boots do probably help though.

The adults followed my bloody trail to the bathroom, where I was about halfway through their first aid kit and doing alright by it. They were: relieved to find me alive after arriving to blood, concerned about infection, and probably not glad that I had trailed through carpeted rooms to get there.

With feet sweeping and stamping like a jackrabbit, I escaped it. I threw myself into the house, skated across the linoleum on bloody soles, ricocheted back into the oak door to close it behind me, and limped off to the bathroom to address the pain throbbing in my feet as my adrenaline faded.

I ran across needles and rocks and gravel until I got back to the house. It chased me, silhouette flickering like a zoetrope as it passed behind trees and through sunmotes. My eyes ache as I try to recall its appearance. I think it carried a weapon, though I'm not sure it had any hands.

It was sundown but the hills made it darker. There were plenty of places for a velociraptor or clown to hide. The scarecrow chose to stand at the most conspicuous point, right where the hills funneled a dusty halo of sunset. It moved like a bug. Fight ❌ Freeze ❌ Flight ✅ and I was off.

I was fast as they came back then. I'd run up and down these woods for years. I knew to sweep my steps under the prickly leaves to displace them before planting my step, and to plant each step squarely on the needles so as not to slip and fall when pivoting through a turn.

"Summon Ketamine Ape" sounds like a powerful spell until you realize you've just summoned a tranquilized gorilla. Don't make that mistake and waste your spell slot. My go-to is the classic "Summon Cocaine Bear". Gotta be careful though. Cocaine Bear does not differentiate between Ally or Foe.
